    Green Algae

If I have green algae on the floor of my pool, is it better to vacuum the pool before treating it with CYA, shock, and algecide? Or can something like that only be treated with chemicals and I shouldn't bother vacuming until After the algae goes away with chemical treatment? Thanks!

    Dichlor Shock and CYA Buildup

For the past year or so, I've done sanitation and shock in my 500 gallon tub with Bromine and MPS mixes. I've recently shifted from MPS to a dichlor-based shock. Since my shocks are typically no more frequent than weekly, should I have any concern of CYA buildup? I don't do any CYA testing...

Hi Everyone, I opened my pool last week and got almost all of the visible organics out. I’m on Day 3 of the SLAM. My CYA was high 70, so I needed to get FC up to 28 according to the chart. I’m almost there - FC dropped a little bit after the first day, and I added some additional chlorine...

    Opened Pool - High CYA

Hello Everyone, I opened my pool about a week ago and I'm dealing with a semi-cloudy pool (not bad, I can see main drain fine) and the smell of chloramines. I'm in the NE, I have loop lock cover and the pool water is usually disgusting when I open it - that's why I try to start early. I...

Shock level and when to SLAM?

My SWG was off for the winter. Last week, my FC level had dropped to 0.5 or 0. I noticed some color in the corners and hoped it was pollen, so I raised the FC to around 10 bc that was all the dichlor I had. finally did a filter clean today and color is back in corners. Think I need to SLAM, but...

In Dichlor-Bleach Hot Tub, are weekly chlorine shocks necessary?

As part of weekly or monthly maintenance in a dichlor-then-bleach hot tub, are chlorine shocks necessary (12-13ppm FC, 30ppm CYA)? Or is it just in response to problems (cloudiness, odor, foaming, etc.)? Just getting over some hot tub rash, so I want to make sure I'm dotting every "i".

    Liquid Chlorine

May I ask where everyone is buying their chlorine from? I know shelf life is important and making sure it is not old after reading threads. I am also wondering if more people just go for the bleach or the actual liquid chlorine? I am just starting to move myself to the TFP way of pool upkeep...
