Trouble with test results, advice appreciated

Your test results will be more accurate than Leslie's. Keep practicing with your kit, it will be more accurate than Leslie's. Please post your full test results from the Taylor 2006. For the salt test, just add the drops while swirling and when it turns a red brick color, that is your value...

    Hybrid TFP method

Figure out a way to switch to salt. If you can do the work yourself, you are looking at $1500 for the cell/power center. Maybe another $100 in miscellaneous parts for wiring power to it. The money you save from water replacement, not having a pool guy come, and your time is worth it. You...

    Brushing your walls

Most pools would have a service that comes in and maintains the pool. They are also probably doing the maintenance when you are not there. Like early morning prior to opening or later after closing. Way back in the day (over 40 years ago), my sister was a lifeguard at a pool and did perform...

    I'm back!

Finally got around to installing new pump and inlet valves. What a difference! Much quieter pump and using way less energy. Old pump was running at 1.8kW and new pump I have dialed back to 1750rpm for 0.372kW. Figuring that should save me about $20 a month on electric. Next up is some sort...

    I'm back!

I think I’m getting ready to get the Whisperflo. I can feel the pump vibration at the pipes and the skimmers.

    I'm back!

It looks like the difference in the Intelliflo and the Whisperflo is 3HP vs. 2.6HP. Anything else you could educate me on?

    I'm back!

This is how I plan on piping it once I can get a pump installed. Replacing the valves with Jandy type serviceable valves.

    I'm back!

I do want to upgrade the valves. But what do you mean my suction side challenge? Is there a concern with the new pump suction lining up with the current piping?

    I'm back!

I reuploaded larger photos. I do not have automation, but I may do in the future. I will look into the whisper flow.

    I'm back!

UPDATE: Installed a new filter (old one was sand and leaking) and a SWG (IC-60). Luckily, the previous owner had disconnected the Perma-Salt system and was using liquid chlorine. I talked with him and he was actually a TFPer! He showed me his TFTestKit. I had the water tested for copper and...

    I'm back!

I just looked up the Perma Salt system. OH MY DOG! This is the type of thing I have been steering people away from. IC40 or IC60 needs to be ordered! Also, it really grinds my gears that it uses "salt" in its name, since it's first two features are: Is not a Salt Generator Does Not Convert...

    I'm back!

Hello all you wonderful TFPers! We are back in the pool game! We just put a contract in on a house with a pool after having lived without one for a couple years (down in Florida). The new pool has a vinyl liner (vs. our previous gunite pool). Also, looks like a sand filter and a single speed...

    What's pooping in my pool?

Looks like rat poop. It could be gecko or lizard poop also.

Using rain water from roof for pool

What is your roofing material? Shingles, metal, or tile? I know there is some concern with contaminants in roofing materials when people use the runoff for vegetable gardens. Usually, they let the water settle in barrels before using. Also, you may want to test the rain water runoff before...

New Pool Owner looking for ideal settings for Florida

I came up with some different math. It looks like that unit produces 18g per hour, so 432g in 24 hours. That is 0.95 lbs per day. Plugging that into PoolMath for a 29,000 gallon pool gives your 1.3ppm FC at 100% for 8 hours. The recommendation is to typically get a SWG that is rated for...

Taylor k-2006 how long before I need to replace reagents

I test weekly. We can get up to 3" of rain in an hour here in the summer. I buy the 16 oz. CYA bottle and it lasts me a year. I just saw they sell it by the gallon!

Ok to brush before running pump?

You should be brushing twice a day for the first 2 weeks. And then once a day for the following 2 weeks. Then you get to relax and brush once a week!

Sandy feeling substance on sun shelf?

    That’s some nice sleuthing!

Sandy feeling substance on sun shelf?

I also just noticed your pool is open with no screen. It could be sand/dirt blowing in. Do you have a return on your sunshelf? If there is not a strong return there, it seems that the water would not circulate as much and the sand would accumulate there.

Sandy feeling substance on sun shelf?

That is strange. Maybe the substance in your hands came from the hose kicking up sand in the pavers? Are you saying there is no sand in the pavers in your picture? Could it have gotten blown or tracked in somehow?

Sandy feeling substance on sun shelf?

    I vote paver sand.

    1st time pool guy

I think the pH of rain is around 6. Maybe that caused the pH decrease? Although that may be a stretch.

Lesson learned - Rust spots in pool

The other day I noticed a couple rust spots on the bottom of pool. No big deal, they pop up once in awhile. But then I noticed more and more. They were all mainly where the wall and floor meet. That seemed weird. So I dove down with my vitamin C tabs and started rubbing the spots with the...

    1st time pool guy

Good point. For some reason I thought the 2006-C was oddly more than twice the price. I think I was getting the 2006C and 2006C-Salt, etc. mixed up. Thanks!

    1st time pool guy

Sorry. But I meant to have 10 gals to have on hand. Once you know your pool volume, there will be X oz. of Cl per X gals. of pool water for a 1PPM rise in TC. For example, on a 20,000 gal pool: Adding 26oz of 10% chlorine will make TC rise 1PPM. You will be adding the chlorine through the...

can Kem-Tek 1-Gallon Liquid Pool Chlorine from lowes be used instead of bleach?

Because they were asking if they could use “pool” chlorine instead of “bleach”.
