    Need to SLAM

I caught a few minutes of the Zoom conference on YouTube yesterday. SLAM level FC = 40% CYA. I try to maintain my CYA between 30-40, which means SLAM FC would be 16 tops. So it does make sense.

    Need to SLAM

Alternatively, you could do a partial drain and refill, but that would necessitate bumping your CYA back up to 70 after you are done.

    SLAM a neglected Pool

Do not cancel your order. Please!?!?! For the love of all things holy, that is the last thing you want to do.

Does anyone go an entire swimming season without SLAMing their pool?

Other than the initial clearing in May, I do not have to SLAM my water during the season.

Unable to Kill Algae and Clear Pool

K-2006 or TF-100. As someone who has converted from Baquacil, the price of the TF-100 more than pays for itself in the chemicals you don't buy from the pool store.

Unable to Kill Algae and Clear Pool

Welcome. Congrats on finding the site. The first step you want to take is to avoid the pool stores. Their testing is inconsistent at best and goal is to sell you stuff you, in all likelihood, do not need. Step 2: Toss the test strips Step 3: Order your own full service test kit. There is a...

    Green bottom when opening pool

Get chlorine (with the pump running) in that water before you do anything. No chlorine with a CYA of 40 risks the introduction of bacteria that will convert your CYA to ammonia, forcing you to use a lot more chlorine getting rid of it. So your immediate steps are add chlorine to FC=SLAM, brush...

To SLAM or not to SLAM - Rain for next 7 days

Sounds like you are on the down slope of your SLAM. Time out of town is where tabs come into play. At least for me, but it's a slightly different story mid-SLAM. If you have an inline or floating chlorinator, I'd fill it to the brim, bring FC to SLAM, and continue with the SLAM upon your return...

Mustard Algae? Dead Algae? Tree Pollen?

How long did you wait to test after you dosed? Do you dose and test in the same area of the pool? Where did you take the water from this morning? Could be a matter of concentration.

To SLAM or not to SLAM - Rain for next 7 days

Probably has something to do with the temperature...:D To get back to the OP. I wouldn't add LC in the middle of a downpour (unless I was wearing white. Too high of a chance for splash back). Depending on how much rain falls, you'll want to keep your eye on pH, when FC <10 (Although aeration...

    A special thank you............

Out of curiosity, why are you running the heat pump if swimming is still days, if not about a 1/2 week, off?
  14. Husky25

    Start SLAM at night?

If your water is that green and you have already added stabilizer, you won't lose much to the sun. Most of you FC will be consumed by organics.

    Pump green off cover first?

In that case, you'd do well with a pump akin to what I linked. Another piece of advice would be to pump off as much water between closing and the first freeze in November. The swamp next Spring won't be nearly as bad.

    Pump green off cover first?

The only reason that I can think of is to save well water. In that case though, I would just slide the cover from underneath and let the standing water combine with the pool water and SLAM it once the filter is up and running. Probably going to use the same amount of Chlorine, but you would be a...

    Pump green off cover first?

Yes. Pump it off. Water is heavy. The only reason why I would shock the water above the cover is if you were going to just slide the cover from underneath and allow the water to mix with the pool water, but it sounds like you don't want to do that. Plus it would take a lot of chlorine and...

    OCLT

It looks to me like you have passed the OCLT (<1 ppm FC loss overnight, .05 or less CC, and clear water). According to PoolMath, a 121 jug of 10% concentrate should raise FC in a 19k gallon pool by 5ppm. So if you are losing 4ppm during the day, you are pretty much replacing what is broken down...

    OCLT

Your pH needs to come down a scosche and if you are concerned about FC usage, you may consider bumping up your CYA. My pool has a bit more volume than yours and I use about a half gallon of 12.5% LC (on average)/day, just to give you an idea. It's pretty cool here now but we just experienced a...

    This is such a joke

That is my assumption too. There are three Farmingtons in New England. None in MA (CT, ME, and NH). I read this thread before I started watching the video and honestly, the video lost all credibility with me after this mistake. Which was what? About 4 seconds in? The entire thing is a Leslie's...

    Algae Problem

I don't think the science supports that, but if it doesn't hurt your efforts and makes you feel better, have at it. Though I'd let the true chemical experts weigh in on that front. All that I know is that I haven't stepped foot into a pool supply store in almost three seasons except for...

What to do when going on vacation?

In the weeks prior to leaving I will: 1. work to get CYA to as close to 30 as possible. Immediately prior to leaving. 2. Bring to SLAM level 3. Stuff a Floater with as many tablets as it will hold. Immediately upon return: 4. Test CYA 4a. If I can deal with it being higher, I'll leave the...

    Algae Problem

All due respect, but no you haven't. There are specific steps to the SLAM using only chlorine and it cannot be done haphazardly. If you want to care for your pool in a TFP manner, you'll need a recommended test kit. There is a link in my signature to the TF-100. Ocean State Job Lot has the best...

Pool is cloudy after chlorine shock

Welcome to the site. All due respect, but that is not what they suggested. They said you need to S.L.A.M. it. Get yourself a recommended test kit and follow the advice in the links provided above and in my signature. For a 23,000 gallon pool, the FC provided by a single gallon of 12.5% liquid...

    Help please

Your CC is over 0.5 and if you are losing 9ppm FC, you definitely have something going on. If it were a pool, I'd say brush the walls and SLAM it. However I think there are different guidelines for spas. In terms of SLAM levels, maintaining 16ppm FC only takes between 2-3 cups, depending on...

    Pollen or Algae???

I don't think algae necessarily causes CC, but it will consume FC quicker than you expect. Raise your FC to SLAM Level, brush & vacuum, and do an OCLT. The results will tell you a lot.

    Nightmare Opening

Congratulations on the birth of your son. If you are on well water, the mesh cover may still be the best route as it allows you fill the pool through rain and melted snow. No risk of metals and no 5 bills for trucked in water. I'd also shoot for a mid May opening. If you are SLAMming now...

    Advice please!

My bad. I didn'the realize you had a SWG. Disregard the CYA comment. You still need a SLAM to get rid of the cloudiness.
