    New Quartz Plaster Calcium Hardness

Whose instructions? Did they give a reason why? you don't need to dilute it, you can just pour it slowly in front of the return and leave the system running so it can fully circulate. Have you used Pool Math yet? Do you know how much liquid chlorine to add, to reach 2ppm?

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Not always. I've actually had pools have both. Makes eradicating it much more difficult because it requires a longer process and more chlorine.

    New Quartz Plaster Calcium Hardness

You're on day three? You need to slowly get liquid chlorine in there before your water turns... CYA/stabilizer? By any chance did they also install a tablet feeder or just the SWG?

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Are you only testing CCs in the morning? So what I learned when tackling ammonia situations (probably in the hundreds at this point) is the CCs are very high and FC very low within one hour of using traditional SLAM methods. So for example, raise the FC up to slam level, wait an hour or so and...

SLAM’ing - going through lots of liquid chlorine

Sounds like you could possibly have had an ammonia issue. Have you read anything about it? Stabilizer/CYA can convert to ammonia over the winter. It creates a huge chlorine demand at start up. Were you seeing high CCs during this SLAM? What is your FC/CC level now? I buy an ammonia test...

    Until my test kit arrives...

You need a way to circulate the chlorine or it will just settle and puddle. A big brush on a pole to stir it around, make sure to thoroughly mix it. That 12 oz is based on the size of the pool full? If so, cut it in have since the pool is only half that. You need to get stabilizer dissolving...

TA high in fiberglass pool with SWG. Do I need to adjust?

Not important. You may see your ph creep up, so just use muratic acid to lower the ph anytime it goes over 7.8. If you target 7.2 when you calculate how much acid to add, over time the SWG which is a source of aeration, will continue to cause the PH to creep up. The muratic acid will help...

    New Quartz Plaster Calcium Hardness

Keep an eye on your ph. You're fine. Its the combination of high ph and high CH that cause issues. Can you post a full set of test results please :)

    Until my test kit arrives...

Is the pool full, is the pump running? is your gallon size shown correct? Have you played with the Pool Math yet, to calculate how much chlorine to add? Do have stabilizer/CYA on hand?

    Suddenly... bird poop!

Not for me. I've seen rubber snakes work.

    Suddenly... bird poop!

It lasts about 4 weeks generally. Mine has ended, so you must be later in the season. For me its mid May to mid June but we had an early (and lousy) spring.

    Suddenly... bird poop!

Its too late now, the dive-bombing ends when the babies leave the nest. They love the arborvitaes. I would suggest that next year, you be proactive and prevent them from nesting there... easier said than done. I've given up. LOL All you can do is keep your chlorine level in range and brush...

    Suddenly... bird poop!

Sounds like you have a nest of Grackles. They take the poop of their young and drop it on the side of my pool EVERY YEAR. Its disgusting. They are literally like dive bombing airplanes, and they know what they are aiming for. Its bizarre.

HELP with algae/zero chlorine in saltwater pool despite multiple shocks

Worth noting for the future, Phosphate remover is a pool store gimmick and you won't need to buy it anymore, once you are doing your own testing ;)

    easy question about my numbers.

I have a client who lives by a farm and he purchased a phosphate test for himself....(before he found TFP) - - - Updated - - - What shingles said... bump it up with liquid, its faster and you don't have to wait to see results.

    easy question about my numbers.

I would bump up your FC level by a few PPM with liquid chlorine before you let them kiddies in the pool ;) I would test the water after the party and add additional liquid if needed.

Adding Calcium hardness to High iron water

Re: Adding Calcium hardness to High iron water Changing the sand should have worked. Not sure about your calcium question, but why did you add it?

Trying to get these darn chemicals right!

The CYA is acidic...it will lower ph and ALK. How much alk up (baking soda) did they tell you to add? You can see using the Effects of Adding Chemicals Section at the bottom of the PoolMath Calculator what this addition will do to your PH (not much probably unless they had you add ALOT of...

Adding Calcium hardness to High iron water

Re: Adding Calcium hardness to High iron water I suggest you open up your sand filter and give it a good deep clean. If that doesn't work, replace the sand. I've come to learn that while the intex brand sand filter/pump/SWG combo are better than the crappy little intex white paper filters...

Trying to get these darn chemicals right!

You can add all three of the products I mentioned at basically the same time - CYA can go into the skimmer in a nylon knee high/panty hose. Baking soda gets poured in front of the return flow, as does the liquid chlorine. Use a pole with pool brush to dissolve any residual powder, this will...

Trying to get these darn chemicals right!

The recommended levels are in Pool School. Hold off on hardness - do you have a heater? 1. Add baking soda to raise your ALK (CYA is acidic and could lower your ALK so I suggest the addition to bring it up to 70-80) 2. Then add your stabilizer/CYA. 3. Skip "shock" 4. Add enough liquid chlorine...

High CH; High CYA after three weeks of adding 1 gallon of bleach

I'm not sure you are understanding - in this situation, the tablets are causing your problem. Your last FC test showed 10.4, if you let it go lower, you will not be maintaining a minimum FC level that is in accordance with your CYA level. As Marty said, you need to drain at least HALF your...

Water is balanced but still slightly hazy/dull?

I have never seen an aftermarket bag as you describe. Filter could have been clogging faster than it normally would because of the floc and clarifier so yes definitely do a deep clean.

Water is balanced but still slightly hazy/dull?

It is normal when vacuuming manually for a sand filter to start to lose suction as it gets dirty. This is when you backwash, rinse, and then continue. Your polaris WILL NOT catch the fine dust particles the previous vacuum did, and you will have to manually vacuum it if you want to keep it...

High CH; High CYA after three weeks of adding 1 gallon of bleach

1st, take some pool water, and then some tap water, and use equal parts of both to create a 50/50 sample. Then use that sample to test your CYA. Take that result and multiply by 2, because its very possible your CYA is over 100. Make sure you are doing the CYA test outdoors, in direct...

Hi, testing my water for the first time

Hi there, Ok start in Pool School with the ABCs of Pool Water chemistry. If you just filled the pool and the water looks great, it's because you just filled the pool :) You need to add stabilizer. Any and all chlorine that you add or the SWG produces will be consumed by sunlight without the...
