Until my test kit arrives...

We started filling our new pool late yesterday (city water). I looked for a test kit locally, but ended up having to order one. It won’t be here for 2 days.
I have a gallon of 10% chlorine at the ready. Should I wait until the test kit comes or should I go ahead and add it?

Is the pool full, is the pump running? is your gallon size shown correct?
Have you played with the Pool Math yet, to calculate how much chlorine to add? Do have stabilizer/CYA on hand?

Once the pool is full, start running the pump. Use PoolMath to calculate 5 ppm chlorine, and add that much liquid chlorine daily. Also calculate 30 ppm CYA and add that by putting the CYA in a sock or knee high hose and hanging it in front of the outlet (where the water comes back into the pool). Do NOT put it in the skimmer!

That will get you going until your kit gets here.

It is just over half full. The pump is not running because the water level isn’t high enough yet.
The pool volume was printed on the box it came in.
Ive looked at pool math and it says I need to add 12 oz. of bleach. I actually have a gallon of HTH Liquid Chlorinator. It’s 10% and I did set Pool Math for it.
I went ahead and tested pH with my aquarium test kit and it is 7.6.

You need a way to circulate the chlorine or it will just settle and puddle. A big brush on a pole to stir it around, make sure to thoroughly mix it. That 12 oz is based on the size of the pool full? If so, cut it in have since the pool is only half that. You need to get stabilizer dissolving in a stock or knee high to protect your chlorine from sunlight destruction.
