I switched chlorine.. I love it BUT I"ve been warned it WILL bleach my pool liner !! - Erica

I live in MD and have had no problems finding liquid chlorine with good dates. I bought my last batch at Home Depot. Also, Ace Hardware sells it a good price, as does Walmart.

Please share how you collect water for testing....I'm curious how everyone else does this...

I purchased a condiment bottle set from the dollar store, it has the squirt lid. Put it in the water upside down, when up to my elbow I turn it right side up, fills with water. The squirt lid makes it easy to fill the tester tubes.

    Giardia Shock Recommendation

Giardia lives in the ground and also carried on the fur of the dog around their anus, and on their paws which they pick up the cysts from the area when they walk. It is recommended you wash their paws and bum and do not allow them lick you as the cysts can be passed that way to humans. If...

Do you have a salter water generator? If you do then yes the CYA would be higher.

    First test results with TF-100

I would raise CYA by half the amount suggested, test after 48 hours and add more if needed. Edit using pool math I get 50 oz by weight to go from 20 CYA to 50 CYA

Use well water after the well has been sanitized?

I would not use that water. The chlorine was put in to more or less SLAM your well. It is killing bacteria and other gunk that’s in there. Because of that it will have high CC’s, you do not want that in your pool. I have been through a well sanitizing and the water you flush can be nasty.

New Pool Owner, Need Help in sequence for correcting Levels

You can start the SLAM right away, just base your target chlorine level on the target CYA added.

    Boatmen and/or backswimmers

I get millipedes (first time this year) spiders and copper colored beetles in my pool. The beetles end up in my skimmer sock, spiders can swim and the millipedes drown and sink to the bottom. I have a forest on one side of my pool about 25 ft away and we are water front on the Chesapeake...

replastered pool first time adding chemicals

Wait 15 minutes after adding either of the two before adding the other. Pump on, poured in slowly in front of return.

What order should chemicals be added

Right now you need to raise your chlorine. With a CYA of 50 your minimum is 4 and your target is 6-8. Letting it go below your minimum is an invitation to algae. You probably need to increase your SWG setting or runtime. I would add liquid chlorine right now to get to my target and not wait...

New Saltwater pool, when to add quemicals and on what order

It wouldn’t provide any benefit, but I am with you I would want to test the system before next season. Since you have a heater, I would go ahead and keep the pool open to enjoy. My pool does not have a heater, but with a solar cover on it I was swimming up until mid Oct last year in MD.

    Cloudy pool

In pool math you must enter the number of gallons of your pool. In the now column enter your current test results, then enter the number you want to target in the target column. It will then tell you how much of each chemical you need to add. Right now you are only concerned with FC and how...

Test kit received I am intimidated - with results

You are fine and can swim with Chlorine up to SLAM level for your CYA, so no worries there. The cover can stay on during the day, opening when you get home from work.

    Help! First time pool owner

Raise your PH by pointing your return jets up so they are breaking the surface of the water. To raise your chlorine you need to add liquid chlorine or bleach. You need to add liquid chlorine everyday to stay at your target based on your CYA. Chlorine is consumed by the sun, organics and bather...

First Test Results- Where to go from here

When it is clear you stop. It will turn pink again as it sits there, so it’s best if can do the FC then immediately test for the CC’s.

    My results. Where to start.

You will not have enough chlorine right away so you need to add Chlorine while your SWG catches up. Your target range is 3-5 ppm. I like to stay at the higher range of 5. Once you add the needed amount of chlorine run the pump to mix it in and go swimming. Test your chlorine everyday until...

    My results. Where to start.

Add 5 ppm of bleach/ chlorine until your SWG catches up. Use pool math you figure out how much to add based on the size of your pool and strength of your chlorine/bleach. Post your results along with what test kit you are using, along with how many gallons your pool is TC CC PH ALK CYA

If you have a ladder in your pool, remove it and look up inside it, Algae hides in there. Have you checked your skimmer box and weir door? Check all of the seams in your liner also.

    Finally time to focus

If your FC falls below five in the 15 minute test, add more chlorine to bring back to 10 and retest in 15 minutes. Keep doing this until your FC stops dropping below 5. Once your FC remains above 5 after a 15 minute test, then run your CYA test, if it’s below 30 add enough stabilizer to get you...
