What did you do to your pool today?

Just opened on Saturday...worked on getting the water cleared up a bit, brushed, added some LC, removed some more debris and got my reagent refills in!

Clear water turned very cloudy overnight

And for the record, I do think what I saw in the bottom was an algae-dirt mixture, although I’m 99% the algae was dead since the water temps were 40-50. Maybe it’s just the dead algae getting mixed with the water and that’s what’s causing the clouding?

Clear water turned very cloudy overnight

So..I have a bit of an interesting case here. Opened yesterday: pool was as clear as it could be with some algae on the bottom. I get everything balanced, vacuum up some of the algae and debris on the bottom, then add some stabilizer to get the CYA levels up slightly. Everything looks good...

    What’s with the chlorine prices?

Hahaha, true! Meat is the worst nowadays!!!

    What’s with the chlorine prices?

I’ve heard for awhile that they’ve gone up, but just saw it for myself today. Was going to get some liquid chlorine, and saw the aisle for the pucks…$5 a piece?!? $45 for 5 lbs? That’s the highest I’ve ever seen it. Not that I really care as I use liquid chlorine, and while it has gone up, it...

Checking if my reagents are still good

All of them, or just the main ones? Some of the clear ones like acid demand/CYA look fine. Isn't heat a bigger issue than cold?

Checking if my reagents are still good

Hi everyone! Hope you guys are as excited for spring as I am! Plan on opening next week, and currently getting everything ready. What’s the best way to check if my reagents in my test kit are still good? I stupidly left them outside this winter and honestly forgot.

What is the best underwater camera?

Would have to agree here ^^ Can't beat GoPro's.., at least from my experience!

    First time pool owner

The amount of water you replace equals to your CYA drop. For example, if you replace 50% of your water, your CYA will drop by 50%. For your case, with a CYA of 110, you'd need to replace around 45-50% I'd say. I'll let the experts answer your other question, as I'm not familiar with cartridge...

Least favorite/favorite part of pool maintenance?

Testing is nice....not so sure I can relate to the bruising/scrubbing part. :p

Are we able to swim yet?

Enjoy it! Can't say I didn't jump in before the pool was even filled up myself..haha.

Least favorite/favorite part of pool maintenance?

That too! Sounds like you've got a good system.. haha! I still like to manually vacuum every once in awhile...just to reach places the dolphin doesn't, but I'm honestly amazed at how well the robotic cleaners do!

Least favorite/favorite part of pool maintenance?

    Same here! Brushing...absolutely...sucks.

Are we able to swim yet?

Although, I will add that it's honestly not likely to harm you in any way. Just going by our reccomended levels, you're definitely not there yet :)

Are we able to swim yet?

No... well, I would personally, but it's not really recommended. I know that urge!! Especially with a new pool. In all honesty, I'd wait...it'll make it that much more special when you get in :sneaky:...knowing you have a clean pool with the proper balancing. Your FC is extremely low, and...

How much water should one lose to evaporation?

I lose around 0.2-0.4 inches here in KY on a hot day (88-93f) where the sun is pounding down on the unshaded pool.

    Hot Doggies (feet)

I've seen some booties at our local PetSmart that may work, though of course it depends on what type of pups you have. Mine personally doesn't mind things around his paws, though I know some dogs are a lot more sensitive. Another option that may seem quite obvious, but works 100% of the time...

    How often do you test?

Something else I've also learned from TFP is that maintenance is key. Maintaining 7-8ppm is a lot easier than letting it drop to 4-5 and trying to get it back up. It's crazy how much I've learned from this forum! Really thankful for all the help.

    How often do you test?

With the hot weather we've been having in KY, I find myself adding a little in the morning, and enough to boost to around 7-9ppm at night, which lasts throughout the next day with the little boost in the morning. I'm sure a lot of people do it differently, but that's what seems to work best...

    Pool Store Honesty Test

Thing is... really sucks living in a relatively small town where not a lot is available. Only pool store we have is the one discussed above, which obviously gets pretty good business, sadly. In my honest opinion, it's worth the drive to go elsewhere and get the chemicals I need for the next...

Also, the linked SampleSizer sure looks handy. I'm using a syringe for now...which works pretty well too. Haha.
