Dark Pebbletec and heat issues in summer?

Thanks for the quick replies. There is usually a 20-25 degree swing, so if the high hits 100, then the low will be around 75-80. Sounds like my fear of the pool temp being too high might err on the side of being irrational?

Dark Pebbletec and heat issues in summer?

We're a month or two away from having to finalize the Pebbletec finish/color and I am leaning towards a black finish as it complements my home (modern farmhouse that is white w/ black trim). However, since, I'm in Arcadia, CA, it gets pretty toasty during the summers (100+ degrees) and the pool...

New Home Build = New Pool

This is a very good point that I haven't really thought about. Not having a cover on our current pool, is there a "safe" depth we should sink the spa to avoid potential pressure points?

New Home Build = New Pool

Hi Jim, is it a chemical balancing issue re: spa below pool water line? Photos like the below is what has us exploring a sunken spa:

New Home Build = New Pool

Ah, didn't realize that that square corner spas and autocovers don't match up well. We plan on going with an autocover for code compliance. This might just be my ace to talk my wife out of a spa. :laughblue:

New Home Build = New Pool

bmoreswim, thanks for your thoughts and I agree on creating a swim lane. Using the linked photo in my above post, the swim lane would be the entire left side of the pool, from the spa ledge to the opposite side of the pool. Thanks for the guidance for depth on the sports pool. LOL, we are done...

New Home Build = New Pool

Quick update and a couple more questions. The conceptual pool layout has been determined, please see attached PDF file. We wanted to keep it simple, so the pool will be rectangular (@ 41'x16'). My wife wants a spa, but I do not. I'll be the "pool boy" and have never had a spa before so would...

magna latch series 2 stuck closed

Bumping this thread as I experienced the same problem today. Have had the latches for a few years and locked them for the first time the other day due to son being able to unlatch the gates himself. Went to do some testing today and low and behold, the locks won't unlock. I reached out to the...

New Home Build = New Pool

All, thanks for the additional info on the cartridge vs DE filter. I'll most likely go with an oversized cartridge filter for the new build as the cons for DE strongly outweigh the minor cons for cartridge. Looking forward to less mess and fuss during the filter cleanings! HA! Didn't really...

New Home Build = New Pool

Appreciate the replies! I'll dig into the Intellicenter w/ IntellifloVS and IC60 but from first blush, it appears that this combo should work well. I'll also upsize the cartridge filter. On that topic, will I experience a noticeable difference in pool clarity going from a DE filter to a...

New Home Build = New Pool

Hi All. We are going down the path of tearing down our current home and building a new one and this entails the demolition of the existing OLD plaster pool (woohoo!!). We are planning on installing a new pool (in a different location) in our backyard and I am hoping to gain insight and...

Home Depot HDX Chlorine from April

As mentioned by the poster above, the LC you purchased is definitely usable, it's just not 10% anymore (it's probably closer to 5% now). Most HD's store the LC outdoors in the garden area and it may be subject to direct sunlight which will contribute to weakening the chlorine. See below for a...

What did you do to your pool today?

Tested FC and added 64oz of LC.

    Bad pool boy!

I'd talk to the owner and request a new tech. That tech would have lost all my respect and trust in that he attempted to lie to you. If he thinks it's ok to lie to you and to pee on your equipment, what else would he think is ok to do?

    Google Wifi extenders

I have the Google Wifi pucks and purchased the same 4-puck deal at Costco earlier this year. Depending on the construction type (and layout) of your home, they will need to be set up a bit differently to work well. I'll try and explain why below. My single level, L-shaped, ranch home was built...

Need a new robotic pool cleaner

I have the S300i, love it. I wanted the cart and rarely use the BT function, but on the few occasions that I do, that function does come in handy.

My 30 day initial start up is done, now what?

IMO, the 0.2 vs 0.5 FC accuracy is negligible. As long as you know your FC to the 0.5ppm accuracy level you are GTG! Or maybe I'm just frugal? HA!

My 30 day initial start up is done, now what?

Use a 10ml sample and save on regent. As others have recommended above, add LC to keep your FC up. I also suspect you have an algae issue due to the low FC after start up so you may want to SLAM your pool with LC. It shouldn't take too long to complete the SLAM due to limited organics in your...

    Lawn Sprinklers: Rotary Nozzles

Went with Rainbird HE-Vans for the smaller areas and went with Rainbird 5000 rotors in the larger areas. Recently installed a Rachio controller (on sale at Costco + $80 rebate dropped my net cost to @$90 for it), but might have programmed it incorrectly as a few zones are not getting sufficient...

    Dog hair in pool

Same experience here when my lab enjoys the pool. The skimmer catches a little dog hair but the robot picks up the lion's share of the dog hair.

How much FC do you lose per day?

No FC loss at night. :) Glad to report that the increase in CYA from 40 to 50 has helped stem the daily FC loss to @2.5.

    Lawn Sprinklers: Rotary Nozzles

I switched out to MP rotators two years ago. The issue is that my irrigation system (at least the front yard) was designed for rotors (25-35' distance between heads). The MP rotators don't provide enough coverage and I have a handful of hot spots. Overall, they're pretty good but I'd caution to...

    Weak Chlorine

What is the date stamp on the chlorine that you have purchased from Lowe's? I buy from Home Depot and dig through the pallet for the freshest chlorine (they still have cases of chlorine manufactured in 2018!!). I purchased a bunch the other week with a date stamp of 19213, which is a...

How much FC do you lose per day?

Losing approximately 4ppm of FC daily with CYA at 40. Going to bump CYA up to 50 this weekend to stem the FC loss a bit.
