White funk forming on new pool light

Oops! Thought I attached this already. I’ve noticed pitting under the white scale and have sent these pics to the light manufacturer. They said they’ll ask their engineers and send me a replacement to test underwater for a bit. This happened within days of installing it. These pics are after me...

White funk forming on new pool light

I just swapped out my old 120v incandescent white light and enclosure with this LED light at 12v that fits right over the existing niche. But it is forming these white flaky things all over, what the heck is that? I did a different LED light in the attached spa (same water) and it’s doing fine...

    Recommended heater 400k

Thanks! I read some troubling reviews on StaRite online (Amazon I think). Went to local pool place (not Leslie’s) I trust and they steered me toward the master temp 400 vs the raypak 404btu or the jxi from handy. Great price (tho still expensive!!) and install of just 450, so here we go. Gas...

    Plaster cracking, how to fix?

I’ve done the bucket test a couple of times and there doesn’t seem to be a leak. What other methods do I have to see if these are structural? I’ve had someone come and they just quote replastering everything and say we won’t know if it’s deeper till we drain and start demo on the plaster. A bit...

    Recommended heater 400k

Hello! Need to replace my Jandy 400k btu heater and looking for recommendations. Pool store recommended the Sta-Rite which is most economical, but is it a dependable and long lasting or should I consider other brands? Not a salt water pool. 25k gallon in ground with jacuzzi.

    Plaster cracking, how to fix?

Also any recommendations on pool contractors and a regular maintenance guy in the San Fernando valley in Los Angeles?

    Plaster cracking, how to fix?

Hello! I’ve got a concrete/plaster pool that was replastered or painted about 10years ago I think. I’ve got two hairline cracks one on side and one along one of the drains at the bottom. Also plaster is mottled in color a bit. I’m asking contractors to come and take a look and wanted some advice...

    Considering a Hasa Liquidator

I have had mine for about 7 years. The floats that regulate chlorinated water feeding into the system wear out and or get clogged with salt and fail, as does the output line when it gets salt clogged in there from the chlorine. If you maintain and clean the floats and the entire container...

    Resurfacing Pool

Ok, thanks! Yes I did read about that dispute issue so I figured it was complicated to some point. But I’m any event, I’m hearing in your post that re-plastering is the best way to go to renew the pool and get rid of the surface plaster cracks? In terms of resurfacing to have a more algae...

    Resurfacing Pool

I hope I’m in the right forum for discussing resurfacing my pool. In ground 25k gallon, concrete pool with painted plaster wall (I assume) is starting to show surface cracks. So off I go researching and came across UltraGuard and how it inhibits algae and is better than plaster or paint and more...

    Air blower for jacuzzi

Oh yeah, hows that work? Are you diverting the airflow with the valve or something? Or is the valve to blow air out to reduce e pressure on the main air pipe to the jacuzzi?

    Air blower for jacuzzi

I have a 1.5 hp air blower for my jacuzzi and wondering how I can make it variable power? Is some kind of dimmer switch instead of the on off power switch an option? I'm pretty sure it's not, but a boy can dream....

    Hasa Liquidator Issues

I'd be curious to know the setup of the stenner pump and the LQ as a holder. Luckily, hasa has sent me free out float valves for free, and said that they are working on an upgrade redesign for that part. Otherwise the lq has been pretty great for me.

    Hasa Liquidator Issues

Yes. I've put a new barbed check valve on the outgoing side, too, still drains. Shouldn't matter since the water is draining in the direction of the out check valve, as if the pump is still running.

    Hasa Liquidator Issues

When my pump runs, 2700rpm, liquidator works great during run. When the pump stops, though, the LQ slowly drains out into the system (as if suction is still going) till the LQ water level is down to the out float valve hole. It didn't used to do this, I've run the LQ for well over over a year. I...

Constant brushing & vacuuming, with little results!

I had a mustard algae problem, and a SLAM for about a week solved it and my water is the clearest it's ever been. SLAM it.

    Cellulous vs DE?

Yeah, when i search I only find posts mostly from 2012, an maybe a couple in 2016. Seems like it's a real 50/50 split on preference.

    Cellulous vs DE?

Dear Hive Mind: Is the fiber stuff from Leslie's or FiberClear or other brands the same, and are they better than DE in your opinions?

What do I need, CH is low

So I finally got around to getting pool store readings and they had my CYA at 40, right in between the Blue Devil kit (30) and the Taylor kit (50). Funny that! And amazingly they said my phosphates were over 1000 and I needed their additive. Not a chance! My test showed Phosphates between 200...

What do I need, CH is low

So 50lbs of deIcer pellets from Home Depot for $35 will be just as fine as 50lb from pool store powder at $70?

What do I need, CH is low

Hi! RO'ed about 2 months ago now and maintaining a FC of 3 with liq chlorine. I had a CYA of about 40-45 when the RO finished. Now, I did a test and I get two results. My Taylor kit gives me about 50 for CYA and a larger comparator tube test with the Blue Devil kit...

    Thoughts on bio-active cya reducer

I too had my water (25k gallons) RO'ed about a month ago. Best $500 I spent on the pool. Since then I have done nothing but add liquid chlorine. With CYA at about 40-45, I only need to keep FC at around 3. Before, I had a nasty mustard algae that kep creeping back, and since my RO and daily...

12v pool light conversion using existing 120v wiring and fixtures

I think then I should stay at 120v as everything is under concrete, and I could not be sure there are no shenanigans as you mentioned. :-|

12v pool light conversion using existing 120v wiring and fixtures

I know I have a spa and a pool light both on two light switches at the pool equipment on the same breaker about 20 feet away. There is a GFI junction box right there at the pool equipment as well, not sure if right before or right after the switches (assume it is before switches), but it's a...

12v pool light conversion using existing 120v wiring and fixtures

Is this a bad idea to convert to a 12v system using my existing 120v wiring and pentair fixtures in my under water lamps? I read that gfi is useless at 12v, so that makes going to 12v dangerous or against code? i recently replaced my bulb and a new silicone gasket and I noticed a little water...

    Stain Eraser and rust marks

I just tried the StainEraser on some rust spots I had from a bolt from my solar cover reel and a bottle cap rusting on my floor from at least a year ago, and it worked really exceptionally well! I'm very surprised how well it took off the coin sized rust spots. Any harm in using it? As a pool...

    SLAM finished?

I was trying to get the pool in the 3-5 range before I left, and make sure that every day my tab feeder was giving me 3-5 so when I'm gone for a week, I won't return to yellow walls again. By going down with the chlorine remove, I would get to 3-5 sooner than waiting the several days it'll take...

    SLAM finished?

Ah, good to know! This morning I didn't get to test the pool till just after 9:45am, after about 2 hours in the sun. At first I forgot to run the pump and got a reading of 14.5FC, but then I ran the filter for 30 minutes and got an FC of 16.5, so I lost only 1FC overnight, which is great and...
