    PH TA Anomaly

It is Cold. I'd guess 65ish...... Edit. Colder. But I can't read the green thermometer. Shame on me.

    PH TA Anomaly

I let the pool go green for winter. Just got my TF100 refills. PH appears purple......too high to be accurat. But, TA is measuring 40--which is where I expected based on history. Not a newbi by any means but not sure how to address this. TA doesn't need to go any lower but addressing PH will...

    Why is my CC high?

CC is indicative of your chloring fighting off something organic most likely.

Help me Please! - No Chlorine no matter what

One other question Jessica, how sure are you of your pool volume? I believe you said 10,000 gallons? Could you be underestimating that by chance and under dosing the chlorine? It helps us a lot if you can put your pool details in your signature.

    Snakes and Skimmers

And we use an old decommissioned metal tent stake. Also, I know someone here who lifted the skimmer lid and didn't the the snake curled up inside the lid and not in skimmer basket. Always look.

    FC after shock

Hi Maria, Welcome to TFP. I'm not sure I really understand your question. We advocate maintaining your pool water with good accurate self testing and feeding the pool what it needs. Putting a dose of "shock" in the pool is generally something we see no value in since your minimum FC is...

    Chlorine Level

+1^^^^^ You say you are going through tablets, but that isn't nearly as relevant as what your chemical test results are. Like this: FC CC PH TA Cya CH -doesn't matter so much in a vinyl pool really Those numbers are the key to keeping your pool sparking and healthy. Have you taken the...

    Balancing chemicals is killing me

Hi there, How are you measuring your PH? Is it always with the Taylor drop test? Are you aerating? It seems highly unlikely your PH would be that high with a TA of 50. Your FC is way too low for your CYA number on that list of results. It seems several things are a bit off.

How cold of water will you swim in?

82 for me. But the kids will get in sooner in the spring than me.

How to choose between SWG and chlorine pool?

Yes, welcome to TFP :) I'm one of those pool owners that probably either wouldn't have a pool without my SWG or I'd be miserable. Not to say adding chlorine has to be miserable but I really appreciate having the SWG take care of chlorination.

    Skimmer is too high

I need to correct myself on this. If we leave our filter set to waste and the pump off, our pool will drain almost completely. I know this because DH accidentally has done this twice. But, our filter and drain line are downhill from the pool deck and we have a main drain in the floor of the deep...

    Skimmer is too high

I can't imagine any way to lower a skimmer but maybe someone else could chime in. If you are going to stay and can monitor the level, I'd say just drain when you can. Draining preemptivly could cause problems if the ground becomes saturated before rain fills it back up as it could cause the...

    Stuck at high pH

Welcome to TFP :) Your high TA is likely causing your PH rise. I'd continue to try to lower it. Chlorine is consumed by organics in the pool and breakdown from sunlight--CYA acts as a sunscreen for the chlorine. You may want to raise the CYA to lower your chlorine consumption. You also...

Managing CYA - tablets and liquid chlorine

Welcome to TFP :) I think you'll find most folks here either rely on their saltwater generators or liquid chlorine only--adding stabilizer manually and not with tabs. Of course there are exceptions but largely this is the case. Liquid chlorine, bleach, is fine as long as it doesn't have...

    Possible problem with chemistry.

When you say SLAM, you mean you were constantly keeping your FC at shock level for your CYA until all three tests were passed? Pass OCLT, CC .5 or less and clear water?

High PH Question / New MemberÂ’ / First Forum Post

Welcome to TFP :) You may be well served to try to lower your TA. Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity Aeration will raise your PH. I see in your signature there is a waterfall, that type of aeration will definitely cause PH rise. You can try lowering TA and you might find that sweet spot TA...

pool close or open in SC?

I'm also in the Cola SC area. We do not close our pool. Our timer has a temperature control that kicks the pump on when the temperature drops into the mid 30's. It really doesn't happen too often. I've never insulated the exposed pipes. As long as it is circulating, I've never worried.

    Cloudy Water

While the CYA test takes getting used to, I'd always always always trust your test on that over Leslie's. Years of evidence on this forum that the CYA tests done by the "professional" tends to be the most inaccurate of all their tests. It may be because they don't really follow the notion that...

    Green pool despite chemicals

Primuspaul, Despite the efforts to point you in the right direction regarding the ABC's of pool chemistry you seem to continue to want to compare liquid chlorine to stabilized dry products. By price per pound, you are comparing apples to oranges. They aren't the same. If you want to post up...

    Green pool despite chemicals

Primuspaul, Post #10, I tried to explain the dry chlorine vs liquid. The CYA or the calcium added by dry chlorine types are not "consumables"..........they DO NOT dissipate in the pool without draining water.......eventually causing problems for most. Of course, in a climate more northern...

    Green pool despite chemicals

Dry chlorine is always stabilized by something. Calcium hypochlorite (cal-hypo) is stabilized with calcium. Dichlor and trichlor are stabilized with Cyuranic acid (cya). Both are substances that can build up in your pool and have undesirable effects. This is why we mainly reccomend using liquid...

    Still green......

Welcome :) Congrats on your new great testing kit. Sounds like you grasp what your course of action needs to be. You definitely still have something festering. Draining to get that CYA down is a good first step.

We have a swim out bench in the deep end of our pool and love it. We didn't put any ladders in the pool. Just the steps in the shallow end and the swim out in the deep end.

Normal for Chlorine test to turn back to pink?

Yes. And if testing for CC's you don't want to let that sample sit before adding the r-0003. It should all be done in succession.
