Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

When we returned home today, the tile guy was back! He put in the overflow thingy and began tiling the last of the glass tile!! I'm so excited! I called our PB but still no date for the Pebble. Oh well, eventually it will happen.

The paver guys are still working on the Travertine. They won't finish today, so maybe tomorrow or Friday.

I'll take and post more pictures this evening.

HA! I fed the paver guys Supreme Pizzas today (their request) for lunch. They left about 3:30..... I think I should forget buying the lunches; maybe their lunches/siestas wouldn't last so long! I had told them yesterday no lunches for today, but when we got home from errands, they looked at me forlornly. So I asked if they had eaten and they said no. A little tiny bit of progress on the deck and no other drainage work done today. Can you tell I'm getting antsy?? Maybe they were concerned about bothering Augustin, the tile guy?! It seems to me they're doing a great job!

Now I'm thinking maybe 3-4 more days for the deck if this pace continues. One day a couple of them stayed until 7pm, but those were the two hardest working men. And they weren't here today! Hmmmmmm.... I have to remind myself progress is happening and quit being greedy about it!!!

I want to swim!!!!! Suz.

Yes, I did get the puppy dog eyes! I fall for it every time!!

These are the pictures from today - all of the tile going on under the waterline. This was my son's vote, and as long as it's not too outrageous, his vote usually trumps mine. This glass tile will be under the water on a vertical surface, so I'm not sure if it will even show. But our PB voted for this, also. My vote was to cover the seat of the deep end bench. I thought we would see the colors better when under water on a flat surface, but we would have still had a lot of tile left over. Laying it under the waterline tile uses up almost all of the glass tile.

The tile doesn't show well in this picture, but you can see the difference of where the tile is to the right of the guy and none to the left of him. Also, you get a shot of Koo-ko, the paver crew chief working with the travertine. Two crews at once - not bad!

The tile is a little further along here. Do you think it will even be noticeable under the water? I guess we'll see it when we're swimming. This shot has the sun on the tile a little better showing the different iridescent colors.

This is looking back towards the shallow end where the last of the glass tile was laid under the waterline tile. It sure will look better with nice clean water!!!

Thank you, Layla! Yes, we are excited about it - more each day. And a little more impatient each day. I have to reign that in, though, because more rains could come or other delays! I'm keeping positive and trying to be happy with the steady pace even if it feels slow!

I like it! I like how different the colors look in different lights!

I bet it will enhance your water with it being under the water.

And who put the ducky family in the pool?????????? CUTE!

Suz, it is absolutely beautiful!!! I love love your iridescent glass tiles. I think they will show up! Those things really reflect light very well. And your pool is just amazing! I want to pick it up and put it in my backyard!!! [emoji3][emoji3]
But no... I will just drool over it from afar. It's going to be so nice. It really shows how much thought you have put into this.

Kim: Thanks, dear friend! The ducky family? Nick started it, and then we've both contributed. Momma ducky gets tired on some days and just flops over, and so does one of her babies. Then, they will both pop up again. the other 2 are the Duck Derby duckies. I guess they have those all over the country. Here in Houston the Duck Derby runs on our Buffalo Bayou to raise money for some needy cause. Those little duckies are made with the weights to stay upright. Our duck family has gotten us through those disappointing days/weeks when nothing happens. And all the work crews seem to enjoy them - Or..... they've decided this is the crazy family!!!!

Jstblush: You are so very kind! Thank you, thank you!!! The stairs are my favorite. Pretty and functional for me!

What color is your liner? I'm fascinated by the variety of liners! I think plaster should come in different designs, too! Lol!!!!!
Suz.

JannyLee: You say the nicest things!! You really do, and thank you! You do NOT need my pool - your pool is going to be fabulous! And now you have the deck rebar completed! Girlfriend, your pool seems like it's been going at lightening speed. I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to you, but it does to me! I'm still excited about you guys getting away before the plaster. I really think you're going to find that works out well. You will be rested and ready to wrap it all up when you get back. And..... I can't imagine having our pool completed and THEN leaving for vacation - NO WAY! This is going to work out much better! And you'll be busy with the trip and family and etc. WE here left at TFP are going to be the ones antsy for your build to continue!!! Poor US!!! LOL!!!!!
Suz.

Can't wait to see the finished pool! Love looking at all of your pool builds. We found TFP, got our water almost perfect then BAM! Our pump broke. So while waiting for a new one, have been reading through TFP and researching re-plaster v. quartz v. a Pebble product + new waterline tile and while I've enjoyed the research, I'm positively cross-eyed! You've all made such beautiful choices.

One last update for today. Augustin, the tile guy, knocked on the back door. He wanted me to come out to see the work (he never does that). I couldn't believe it! He was ONE tile piece short to complete where we wanted it. We knew we didn't have enough to go under the spa waterline tile under the spillway. But our PB had said he didn't think that would matter, since there was the tile on the spillway. He said it would be ok to just finish off the main pool area.

So anyway (I got distracted)...... Augustine needed one more 1 1/2 x 2" tile piece and there were no more anywhere! But..... I had extra 2x2" Peacock glass tiles for the steps. He just beamed and pulled out his tile saw. Presto, all done! I think his last 2 pieces he placed were a little crooked, but those will be our "Amish" respectful non-perfect pieces. I'm thrilled! Tile is complete! He's grouting now. Augustin never says much about the work, but tonight he said several times, "Muy bonita!" He seemed to like the placement of the glass row below the waterline tile. It tickled me that he liked it.

So..... please note: my signature has been updated to the new build stage!!!!! (don't you hear the announcing trumpets????)

Suz - you have probably covered this in previous posts, but may I ask why you selected travertine for the waterline tile (beautiful)? Also, I believe you said your tile is by Lightstream? Is it peacock blue? Thank you!

Don't worry about looking for that discussion back in this thread. I believe that decision took me about 5 or more pages!!! UGH!! The glass tile is by LightStreams, and it is the peacock blue. I think I first saw the Lightstreams tile on Pinterest. I fell in love with it. Then I had to choose between the Peacock and the Steel Blue. You can see pictures of the Steel Blue on Paris69's posts of pictures on my thread. We met on another forum, so he never officially began a build thread on TFP. But his Steel Blue pool is absolutely elegant - jaw dropping!

We decided on Peacock Blue after we bought some samples from Lightstreams. But I wasn't going to buy much (famous last words), so I was determined to use a blue ceramic tile on the pool waterline and use the glass tile only on the spa to dress it up. I tried and tried and could NOT find a blue ceramic tile that went well with the glass tile. Our PB's assistant kept telling me to use a neutral waterline tile, but I was stubborn about it. Finally, I saw Appelbe's pool with his gorgeous glass tile, and he used a neutral beige waterline tile throughout the main pool body. I just love his pool - elegantly simple and could never get it out of my head. That's when I realized I needed to drop the whole blue ceramic tile notion.

Our waterline tile is beige ceramic, not travertine. I didn't want to have to be sealing the waterline travertine tiles - we are using a SWG system. I love the look. With many of my other decisions, I'm still not sure about them. But the beige waterline tile that goes with the coping? I love it!

Let me know if you have any other questions about LightStreams. They are a fantastic group of people to work with. I highly recommend them. They are expensive, but they don't disappoint.
Take care.

Great discussion. I do love that tile. Additionally today on my way to work I had to stop to allow a peacock (blue neck and all) cross the road. No joke.
Have they finished the part of the travertine by the breezeway and slope? If so, how do you like it? I'd think that given the modest height differential that they could make it work quite well. Then in like 50 years when you need the wheel chair, you'll be all set there.

Ha - it fooled me! It blends with the travertine so well! I wondered how you would keep it clean. Great idea. Love it. Thank you for the info. It helps greatly [emoji4]

How cool to see a live Peacock! They are gorgeous - reminds me of Hawaii.

No, they haven't begun the slope. Right now, it looks like it might be slightly steeper than I first thought. I will have to wait and see. That sloped area is THE main access to our backyard for all the crews and heavy artillery - I mean machines. Lol!! I'm sure they won't finish it until last of the deck. And they may possibly wait until after plaster and landscaping. But no one has said that - just seems reasonable to me.

Ha! 50 years my foot.... Not only are you generously optimistic, you are UNrealistic! I won't get into the actuarial expectations, but let's just say I probably won't see the next plaster job (with the help of TFP) or need to negotiate for more than one more vehicle!! Strange to think in those terms, but age has never worried me. Still doesn't. Just wanna keep walking! Lol!!

This is so exciting, coming into the home stretch! Divine was the word I was looking for, your pool and space is absolutely divine. I cannot wait to see it all done. I am so happy for you that the slope you wanted is going to be a slope, and you don't have to find a plan B.
