Winter South Alabama Monster Green Pool Recovery

Why is "Liquid is best'? It appears it all just comes down to potential for CH increase.
No, don't dump it all in at once.
Download pool math, it will help you with additions. Link-->PoolMath
If you used all of it, it would add 120-200 CH, depending on %. Post a picture of the Product.
Have you read the SLAM process on how to clear the algae...Link-->SLAM Process

Any other form of chlorine (ignoring SWG), will add CYA or add CH.

I would say that Salt water chlorine generator is best. Liquid chlorine second, then any other form after that. SWG is cheapest, Liquid next (assuming you have a source, like Walmart Pool Essentials liquid chlorine).

have to dig up a bucket and rope to get a good sample from the deep end
You really need to circulate the water before taking a sample. Fill and turn on the pump for 24 hours, or put in a sump and run for 24hrs.

Yes, I will get it tomorrow though as I'm not there just now and have to dig up a bucket and rope to get a good sample from the deep end (I can use my arm or even a Pick Up tool to reach down the water just now). Thanks ur great help!!
Hate to reply again but on the SLAM Option...I am assuming it comes with directions ('Of course he says')!! I just saw it was Powder and was curious there about it and didn't see the instructions. Will order some 4 sure

You say water is dirt cheap.

Use your Cal-Hypo if you want. And get a better test kit. Using the cal-hypo may get your CH too high and require you to drain some water but you are saying that will not be a hardship.

It is more difficult dosing to the correct FC level using cal-hypo then with liquid chlorine.

You can stumble along with your HTH test kit and cal-hypo but may find it frustrating. Our answer will continue to be to get a better test kit and use liquid chlorine. Your choice.

Didn't think u meant that, but it read like that kinda like it! Story time-when my sister tried to use a Hand Truck to get 100 lb of CalHypo past the pool into the Shed, she of course LOST the whole sealed bucket as it rolled off the deck into the Pool. Short Story=Chlorine GAS Bomb/Fire Trucks(more than one)/Neighbors for 1/2 Mile around evacuated. Never try that - be Careful with big Chlorine Buckets!

I am not looking for a different answer, Bye now for good!

If it gave you a pH of 8.2 and TA 10, something is wrong with the kit or water is very bad.
Agree...I was surprised too at that- first Drop -All Red after few seconds! Yes Water is very bad, but as you say shouldn't have that TA reading w PH like that.
But I can't reach water easily so I took a sample (it's all stagnant water) while standing on 2nd & Ice Filled step at 23F and ran back inside to test (not sure if that affects it)! But I gotta get some leaves out now, and stir it up today and I will drop a bucket in deep end to get better sample in a couple of hours.
Thanks for your help.

No Question!
TA of 10 and pH of 8.2 is not chemically possible.
OP needs a proper test kit!
What is "OP" Pool owner or Owner Pool?

Otherwise I have CH of 600 and measured PH and TA with 3 Diff test kits. I think my lighting was off and where I said PH was super high, it's only(not ONLY) 7.5. But Ak with all 3 tests (done twice w Neighbors and mine) were showing 10.

In any case, I hear you - buy a new Test kit to ensure it's correct.

Thanks...OP needs a good test kit.
For now the 2/3rds rule for purposes of the use of CalHypo the OP has...
Sorry to bother you again, but if you can consider please: I just got a Test kit ordered & it says kit Arrives in 2 to 5 days. Only question is I have is (1) Do you think I should fill it up now? or (2) Wait for new kit Test it and attempt to treat Green stuff as I fill it up with new tap water (likely 50-60% of water is in pool still).
There is no circulation in water now. Guessing I'd say one=Fill it up and Get Circulation.

Add a 1.5 gallons of 10% chlorine a day until the kit comes. (5ppm). They're in NC and ship daily, it should be pretty quick.

It'll help get the ball rolling, or at least keep the ball from rolling further away. :)

Thanks for Info. As far as Pool Gallons, as I mentioned at Status now - "It's a 29.5K Gallon Vinyl Liner pool." And I the construction is ok as far as even empty pool. It has been empty before with no problems but I wouldn't want to do it as general rule. So I am pretty confident about being able to pump it all out.
Just to clarify my situation on CalHyp: I actually get 100LBS of CalHypo for less than $270 (yes, that's correct). So I have never used Liquid, which seems to be priced like gold. Also I have yet in 60 years(30 with pools) used it so reluctant to change. And it's never caused problems for me, never had Calcium build up here, nut I know many people do. But I am listening to your advice and so will try to find some at decent price!
Also, I have never before had problems with big swings in any Chems really. EXCEPT, last year. First time ever it took a long bit to get it Opened up and never figured why!

But I hear you=it may be best to Start Over, and as you say, our water is Pretty good and it works well out of the Hose.
Thanks again!
Sorry to see you are having a tough time. Can I ask you where do you get this affordable CalHypo?
