Just wondering if a $3K quote for install of a Pentair WhisperFlo VST (Pur-10-414) is reasonable as the mark-up on the price of the pump is 2X. Thanks!
You have a very nice pump with that TriStar. If you are able to do a bearing replacement, then you would be able to install a Nidec Neptune NPTQQ270 variable-speed motor even faster and have the benefits of a VSP that has built-in freeze protection. Or just run it 24/7 during freezing weather.Tough call on whether to assume bad bearings and attempt a self-repair of a 10 year old SS pump or spend the $3K to have a new VS pump "professionally" installed. We are expecting freezing temperatures over the next couple of weeks so timing would be a gamble...were the pump to not be repaired and fail during the freeze.
I see that the repair would (likely) merely require (2) bearings ($45.68), a Viton Pump Shaft Seal Kit ($24.31) and a Bearing Puller tool ($19.99) and then some good luck in attempting to repair the pump successfully without causing any additional damage for a total cost of $90 plus the time and potential frustration.
$3000 for a new VS pump with warranty and lower monthly electric bills vs $90 to keep an old SS pump alive.

SPX4000Z1 Diffuser O-Ring.(just to be sure that all of the necessary seals and gaskets are orderd to properly mate)?
Much easier than replacing bearings then re-installing the motor back to the wet-end. You would need a GO-KT 80 V for shaft seal and new O rings, etc. Videos on replacing a TriStar motor are on YouTube:Are there any guides that can be followed when replacing motors for particular pumps wit the Nidec Neptune (just to be sure that all of the necessary seals and gaskets are orderd to properly mate)?
Are there any particular trusted retailers for buying the Nidec Neptune NPTQQ270?
My Hayward Tristar is currently connected to an Intermatic timer that handles scheduling and includes a temperature probe to run the pump when temps drop low. If I replace the motor with the Nidec Neptune, would I need to omit the Intermatic timer and configure schedule and freeze protection directly on the Nidec?
I am just trying to figure out how simple of a swap the NPTQQ270 motor would be when replacing the Century Centurion Motor B2840V1 on my Hayward Tristar SPX3200.
Thanks for the information!
