Florida
I live in Florida and have about an 18k gallon pool. I’m looking to swap my current system to either a Circupool RJ45+ or Circupool Edge 40. I’m currently seeing the Edge 40 for about $350 cheaper and the replacement cells are $100 cheaper. I know the RJ45+ has a few additional diagnostic features (shows salt level, water temp, etc…), but are there any other reasons to choose it over the Edge for an additional $350? Also, do you think Edge’s uncovered control panel will hold up to the Florida sun? Any recommendations, tips, personal experiences, etc are appreciated!

Welcome to TFP.

RJ adjusts SWG % in 5% increments while edge has 12.5% increment adjustments. An oversized cell will need finer adjustments or else you will also need to adjust your pump runtime.

What is your current system?

Is your pool outdoors or in a cage?

I concur. I bought the RJ+ for this reason I’m glad I did. 60 cell with 30k pool. I adjust very infrequently. With the edge I’d be out there ever day or every two adjusting.

Shop here rather than the Circupool site: CircuPool EDGE-40 Salt Chlorine Generator | Discount Salt Pool
I made that mistake. Discount (which I think is really the same company) always runs "deals" on Circupool items.
I love the 5% increments, which is what pushed me to the RJ.

The RJ45 produces 2 lbs of Cl per day, while the Edge does 1.7
The RJ says it is rated for 15,000 hrs, but no rating for the Edge. This also made me go with the RJ.
Discount has an offer to upgrade from the 45+ to the 60+ for only $10 more - so you'll run it at a lower setting, meaning much, much longer cell life, comparatively.
But, Discount is also running a coupon for the Edge, making it $999 rather than $1399

Even with the deals, I'd go with the RJ upgrade. It is $580 more, but worth it. Cell cost? Who knows 5-10 years from now where the relative prices will be...

Oh wow, thats a good point. Those are pretty large adjustments. I currently have about a 7 year old Hayward Aquarite system with a (dying) T-15 40k gallon cell. The pool is outdoors, no cage.

The Edge is prone to union leaks so I would avoid it. If prefer the Edge to having no SWG, but not compared to the RJ, even with an upcharge.

What percentages do you run the Aquarite at?

I’ve only had the pool for a few months, so I’m not super dialed in on the best percentages for me to run it at. I’ve typically been hovering around 30%-60% (60% during the super hot, rainy months) and my chlorine levels have been around where they’re supposed to be, but I can’t confidently say either of those are optimal.

So start with those % with your new system and see if your FC rises or falls and adjust it from there.

Seems like there’s been a unanimous decision to go with the RJ+. Thank you everyone for your feedback and thank you @sande005 for the Discount Salt Pool link and info! Looks like they’re an authorized dealer for Circupool so I’ll be sure to take advantage of their discounts! Thank you everyone again, hope you all have a great day!

If you haven't bought the RJ60+ yet they usually go on a Black Friday sale on Amazon. It was like $1399. last year so we will see later this week what they offer as I'm looking to purchase one also.

Edge-40 for 3 years here. The SWG is on a manual timer, so once I tweak the runtime, I seldom tweak the cell. Maybe 37.5% mid summer, 25% most of the time. I've had issues with low salt and/or check cell LED this year, but seems to be producing just as much chlorine. Never had an issue with leaks.
