So this happened

@JamesW I caught the looplock guys stopping by to measure. He confirmed 9 inch pipes for the anchors. (y)

The guy impressed me but plenty of others before him have talked a good game just to be spectacular failures. Time will tell, but I'm hopeful.

Ask them how they intend to drill for the anchors.

In my opinion a hammerdrill will likely shatter, crack or otherwise damage the stones especially if they drill into the center of the stones.

I would want a perfect core drill but that takes a lot more time to get it exactly right.

Considering that you have to live with the anchors for the next 20 or 30 years, it seems like a worthwhile investment.

I never knew it was a thing until here. Since I've been on TFP, I've seen it once while driving around. And between work and the kids, I log some MILES on the road. I also believe that was the first time I'd ever seen straw used for seed. It was probably a Midwest transplant. :ROFLMAO:

It's even a step on the bags of seed. We just don't do it here. $17 a bale was the first light bulb. But with the dogs playing in the yard I figured I could really use some extra protection. Until half of it blew away.
I think it’s the only way we seed around here. Except for the industrial applications and highways. They use the spray on stuff with the green material in it.

I'm still a little bitter about spending the money, but it was also nice to have everything nice and clean fairly quickly.
I looked it up out of curiosity and it was $1.17 a sq ft at HD. It likely would have been cheaper from the suppliers, but still. Ouchies. :ROFLMAO:

He said they used a diamond core bit and would use a seam when possible to not have to drill through a whole stone.
What will they do if any stones are damaged
He said they have them at the shop (even rattling off the brand / make / model) and will replace them if needed.

So far, so good.

99.9% chance the guy shows up with a regular hammerdrill and they will say they don't know anything about using a core drill.

With a core drill, you can go into the center of a stone without worrying about breaking the stone.

OK. We covered that too. The core bit needs to be used the whole way down when drilling a full stone, so they will avoid that when possible.

Using a seam he said they can cut a clean hole through the top of the stone, then switch to the hammer drill for the meat of the stone. It's not perfect but I don't care if the inside edge of the seam is a bit sloppy, so long as the top is fairly clean.

Ha I bet! The good news is that even if there was grass there it would’ve died from the drought. Sprinklers only go so far. My lawn looked amazing the beginning of June and then by august it was basically hay.

Next year you’ll be shopping for more beach towels and forget that you didn’t have grass.

I love how nicely my new grass came in this year. I didn't do anything to it other than spreading it by hand. This fall I'm going to start researching how to care for it with the lines. I had my brother mowing it this summer n he n his girlfriend started hacking it. It looked terrible towards the end of the season. I cut this myself. Took me an hour to push the pool yard because it was higher than i liked but looks a lot b20220923_141809.jpgetter.

@Newdude who did you go through to get your safety cover? Someone local I assume. I just reached out to poolcoversdirect.com and the distributer who sent my pool kit (royalswimmingpools.com) and I'm curious how much this is going to cost. I went with a high density mesh.

I didn't even want to give my PB the chance after all their crummy subs did what they did. There was another store a couple towns over that I had 2 good experiences with so I called them. The dense mesh Looplock 20x40 custom measured/made (likely only the stairs area being custom) was $2750 including the 15%/20% upcharge for gray. The install is $500. I'm not sure about the upcharge as the guy said both #s and the process was well below what I was expecting so I didn't press for clarification.

My stairs are offset 3 ft instead of the normal 2 and the coping edges at the opening are somewhat sharp corners so he said they'd reinforce them for more protection everytime the wind billows the cover. I'm guessing they will take a stock rectangle and just modify the stairs area.

Price sounds about right considering the size. I think mine was somewhere between $1500-$2000 installed back in 2019. It’s an important investment though as they do what they are supposed to do. Don’t have to worry about anyone or any pets getting caught in a regular pool cover.
