Hi fellow pool owners. I'm a new member and was very pleased to find this site. I hàve seen many users have received assistance and guidance from members of this community. Thus the reason for joining.
Been a pool owner for about 25 yrs. Last 6 using a Hayward Aqua Trol AQ-TROL-RJ-CUL S/N 1A1425-1209197 mounted vertically. Have a 21 foot, 41000 litre above ground vinyl pool. Never had any problems until this year. On june 3rd the readings on salt levels started to go down drastically until the check salt and check cell lights came on and stopped generating. I decedied to contact Hayward. Maybe a mistake.

Ill try and shorten what I've done since June 3rd when I contacted Hayward.
1. Hayward told me to replace the cell, I did.
2. Then they told me it was the board so they sent me a board
3. Then they told me it was a bad new cell, so I drove 200 km to get a new replacement cell. That didn't work
4. The no flow light came on permanently and prevented generation. They told me if I make my own bypass for the no flow light that that should work. And it did
5. They asked me to call them back and I did. I waited on hold 1 1/2 hrs then hung up. I called the next day and waited 45 min and hung up. I sent them an email. No answer
6. I called the nextday and they told me that they would leave an urgent message and to expect a call back
7. Its been 3days and still no call back or email.

Checked levels this morning. They are:
salt 2920, ph 7.2, chor 4.0, alk 70, stab 40.

Sorry for the long post. Really dont know what to do. Think it may be the board. Checked it and nothing seems to be burn or unplugged. Been reading alot about thermistors but not sure it is this or how to replace.
Any help would be appreciated. Already spent $900 on a new t5 cell and thought I'd try Trouble free pools before I purchase another new board.

Thanks in advance....Burito

Welcome to the forum.
Review Hayward AquaTrol SWG - Further Reading
When you can, post the Diagnostics data as shown in the Wiki.
Hi Again. Cant believe what I found. Will be ordering a taylor salt test kit right away.
Just discovered that my dip and local pool supplier readings were both out by 950. Added salt and bingo lights are gone. Feel abit shocked but glad I found a solution.

Having problems with my Hayward Aqua Trol. Here's what I have done to date.
1.In July the Check Salt and Inspect Cell lights were on solid.
2.Called Hayward and after discussions they told me my Cell was bad.
3.Replaced it with a new cell and again got the same result. Called them back and they said they must have made a mistake and that they would send me a new board as they figured they had made a mistake and this was the problem.
4.Upon receiving the board, I replaced it and this time got a no flow error. Made a bypass plug with a RJ45 phone plug and it removed the message. At this time I began thinking it was the wrong board as my cell is mounted vertically and has no flow switch.
5. Hayward then told me that the new cell must be bad. Replaced the cell again(warranty) and no change. Hayward didn't want to discuss my problem any more.

So now I'm back to square one with the Check Salt and Inspect Cell light on and the display shows salt at 2300. But after testing salt with my Taylor test kit it shows 3600.
Here are the diagnostic results:
Screen123
Temp777777
Voltage30.926.730.9
Current03.123.12
Desired Output72P72P72P
Instant Salt230023002300
NameAL-5
Software Revr1.49r1.49r1.49
n51tn51tn51t

1, 2 & 3 refer to the following:
1.Switch Auto to off
2. Switch back to Auto
3. Switch to off then wait 1 minute and results.

Aqua Trol box is a -AQ-TROL-RJ
S/N 1A1425-1
Cell is a GLX-CELL5
S/N 3E20167

Hope I have all the info you need. If not let me know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all if Hayward sent you an Aquatrol board needing a flow switch when you have the RJ cell they sent you the wrong board.

The Aqu8trol RJ uses board GLXPCBTROLRJ

The Aquatrol HP uses board GLXPCBTROLHP

They are not interchangeable. The Aquatrol HP requires a flow switch. The Aquatrol RJ does not use a flow switch.

What is the actual salinity of the water and how are you measuring it?

Do you have a salt test kit? TF-100 Salt Test Kit

Or, since you are on Canada - Taylor K-1766

It would be best to keep all your SWG posts in one thread.

Yes thats what Im using and the salt level after 18 drops is 3600. Little high but will adjust afterwards. I'll try to continue to keep the posts in the same thread. Thanks

Looks like our mods merged the two threads into one.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Hayward told me that once the bypass plug is inserted that it doesn't matter. Boardsbould work. I wasbt sure about that.

The salt level is 3600 using my Taylor K 1677 kit. Its what was recommended by TFPs and works vreat.

Can you show your whole box?

The AquaTrol has a timer.

Where is your timer?

Change Product Name

Move the switch to auto and momentarily push the diagnostic button to display the Product Name "AL-X".[15] Then move the switch to Superchlorinate and back to auto 3x or until the desired AL-X is shown on the display.

For regular AquaRite, the setting can be changed from AL-0 to Al-5.

For Aquatrol, the AL setting is either set to AL-6 or AL-7.

The regular Aquatrol uses a flow switch.

The RJ (Return Jet) model doesn't use a flow switch.

The model number should be inside the door.

In diagnostics, AL-6 means regular Aquatrol, AL-7 means return jet.

I'm sure that there's a way to change the setting, but Hayward isn't releasing that information. It is the name sent to an automation system.

AL-0 is AquaRite.

AL-1 NatureSoft.

AL-2 MineralSprings.

AL-3 SmartPure.

AL-4 This changes the default display from average salt to percent output.

AL-5 This is used with Jandy automation.

AL-6 and AL-7 are used on the AquaTrol, which is an AquaRite with a timer for above ground pools.

AquaRite, Naturesoft, Mineral Springs and Smartpure are essentially the same unit with different branding. Hayward does private labels for certain companies. Al-0 to al-3 are basically equivalent other than a superficial name change. AL-4 is not about the name, it just changes the default display. AL-5 needs to be selected for the Jandy automation to control the unit properly.

Sometimes an AquaRite will get stuck on AL-6 or AL-7 with no way to switch back and sometimes an Aquatrol will get switched to AL-0 through AL-5 with no (known) way to switch back.

The AquaTrol has three black relays on the board and the AquaRite has 2 black relays.

In Canada there is no timer on the box as far as I know. Mine doesn't have one and it was difficult to fine help with the no timer type of Trol
