Reviving out of service pool: FG & deck Refresh

Pool guys showed up yesterday afternoon. I'd called the owner a couple of weeks ago to let him know that the pool was no longer leaking, so he could delay replacing the light niche until the fall if that was easier for him. We were only doing the niche now 'cause that seemed like the leak source. Don't know why the leak stopped, but only thing that I can figure is that the warmer temps had something to do with it. Anyhow, we'll just deal with it over the summer if it starts leaking again.

Finished filling up the pool today & will reactivate the skimmer tomorrow. Also tweaked some chems today; plan to toss the solar cover on tomorrow too. Hopefully the 75° water will soon reach the mid-80s that we like. Can't wait - it's been a LONG 5 or 6 years since the pool's been swimmable.

The diving board's GONE! Yeah, the robot apparently nudged the light enough that it came loose.

The lead pool guy said he'd be back in Oct when we're having the rest of the work done (resurface pool, repair/refresh Cool Deck). He'll check for leaks before they start. Sounds like a win-win to me: protects them by identifying preexisting problems and could expose anything we didn't find. Did get a series of compliments from him on the pool pad. :D

Yes, he did know. Sure felt good. :kim:
I am just at a loss for words other than this is absolutely amazing. I am in speechless awe of your work.
Thank you. Part of the reason I've posted so much is to document what can be done DIY, even by a coot of my age. If Diane can do it with the support of all the grand folks here at TFP, YOU can do it. (y)

Oh @dianedebuda I spent today reading this whole thread and let me tell you that you are nothing less than 100% amazing as an avid diy girl myself I totally was in love with your perseverance. Like you there are some things I will do & try myself but other stuff I know my limits on and just like my pool now, last year I DIY'd what I could to make it workable for the season then in spring this year we decided to do a total reno & paid a company to do that and we are heading to the finish line now... I can't wait to see how your saga ends ❤️❤️

If you read this whole thing in a day, I'm not the only one with perseverance. :laughblue:Thanks for the thoughts.

Probably not going to be too much posting until October ... unless I do some work on the solar.

@kimkats: Really, only thing that's new for us is the SWG. Remember that this is a 40+ year old pool that we put in. We've always been DIY ... and what we were doing wasn't much different than TFP methods. Right now I'm trying to find the sweet spot of SWG level vs pump time.

@clambert1273: Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Shouldn't be too long; water temp was 80 yesterday, but storm last night brought lower temps for a couple of days. BTW: I'm reading your current thread - familiar, so know I'd read most of it before.

Thanks for reading lol it's at a snail pace now lol you can see my thread too when I bought the house & how the sellers destroyed the pool which brought us to the reno a year later 😂 it's buried somewhere In the forum

That process will that two seasons.. really. It did for me because I was looking at the subtle increase in % as one progresses through the season to its peak in July and then back down to fall when you close or soft-close your pool. Then your readjust.. make some notes that you hope will be intelligible to you in 6 months and start the process over again. When all was said and done I had a run time that I could adjust my cell's output for all the seasons.. 20% in the early spring to 80% in the peak of summer then back down in the fall. And I still had some wiggle room if I needed to go full blast, or I would just bump it with liquid CL... enjoy the process.
