New pool Build in Lutz (Tampa), FL

Some supplies have been delivered and the grass has been scrapped up and hauled away. Here's the plan so far. Anyone have any last minute input before they start digging? I feel like my wife and I have put a lot of thought into it and we're worried there maybe something obvious we're missing, so the more eyes the better! :)

I just went back to the beginning to reread and catch back up with your build. It looks like you have implemented what we suggested before. You are good to go!!!

So lets talk about how to manage your build so you get the best one possible.....................drink and food! These go a LONG way to making for happy workers! A ice chest full of water and Gatorade and some yummmies for their tummies.....brownies, cookies, breakfast biscuits, tacos.................make them LOVE working at your place!!!

So the guys were here today to start the dig. I made a Pool Dig Time Lapse you can see. Before they finished digging I noticed the pool was actually in the wrong spot!!! Instead of being centered off the house it was offset by about a foot and a half (to the left in the photo). I noticed this before they finished digging the shallow end of the pool, so they put that end in the correct location, now they just have to extend the deep end 1.5' to the right to be centered again (the need to dig to the posts on the right side of the photo). I think I noticed it before too much of a problem was caused, but they had already excavated the sunshelf and spa, and shifting the pool changes those areas as well. In the photo I attached, the sun shelf will need to be extended to the right out to that board. They said the plan was to just fill that area with concrete, is that the best solution?

I'm hoping this isn't a sign of how this build is going to go...doesn't exude confidence when none of them knew the pool was off by a foot and a half...The only comforting thing about this was the #2 guy at the company was at my place in about 30 minutes after I noticed the error and assured me everything would be taken care of and went over all the plans and layout. I'm sure someone got a butt chewing....

btw- the food and drinks were a definite hit!

This is where I always say...........Let the MUD/DIRT begin.................but for you I have to add.............let the heart attack happen  oh my!!!!

Before they finished digging I noticed the pool was actually in the wrong spot!!!
BUT, BUT, BUT....................they had it staked out!!!!! OH MY! GURRRRRR

So long as they put rebar there to connect it all together that WILL work!!! Solid plan by the PB......I would ask for him to be there when they come back to work on the fix. I would also be out there with a tape measure and plans in hand to check and double check their work.

GOOD! Now ask/tell him to be there like said above.

SWEET! I might have some more drinks out there to soften the blow of them having to fix SOMEONES problem. I wonder if that person stepped up and took ownership of the mistake.

So I need to ask you this..............will this make the pool bigger than originally contracted? (will follow up on my thought line when I have this answer)

I see they already put the main drain down.........they might need to move it.......keep that in mind. It needs to be at the lowest point of the pool.

oh my.............I always tell everyone to measure the pool hole after it is dug but.................this goes beyond that ...........Make sure it is in the correct place??????????? they had it staked out..............how do I make sure this does not happen down the road with someone else?

I am still going to tell you to measure once they are done this time.............is it long (ha!), wide, deep, etc enough? Add about 6" for the shell and plaster.

That is a HUGE mistake you caught and potentially saved the builder a large chunk of money!

I would ask that the Project Manager for the job be on site more. What does your contract say for PM on-site time? They should really be there prior to any major evolutions like layout, dig, plumbing, gunite, deck, finish.

SO lets talk about how you hope to use the pool and who will be using it most of the time-swimming, lounging, floating, kayak roll practice? how big is the flat area for the shallow end? That is a nice gently slope to the deep end.

It is a fix that can be done..........they will un-tie the steel on the sloop, pull it up and put something under it like bricks or such to support the steel at the correct height then redo the steel on the sloop. They will then fill in the open area with concrete just like they are going to do with the shelf.

Do you have any kids? VERY active friends and family? If so they might like a bigger deep end for playing Watermelon Ball. Google it as it is the BEST water game around!!!

I will let you chew on this and check back in with you after you have had time to think it over.

Today they are here shooting the pool shell. They’ve gotten about halfway done and have had an equipment failure. I believe their compressor has died and won’t be able to finish shooting the rest of the pool shell today, they say they’ll be back tomorrow to finish it. Is there anything special that needs to be done since they won’t be shooting all the shell at once? Anything I should be concerned about?

Thanks again for everyone’s help!

Ha, funny you should ask, I was out taking photos when I saw the notification for the new post. Here's a few shots and questions :)

Should I be concerned that the water in the deep end is pooling just in front of the main drain? It appears the main drain is not in the deepest part of the pool...backyarddeepend.jpg

is it normal to have so much loose dirt / sand on all of the concrete?

in general does everything look as it should? No obvious problems? They ended up finishing everything in one day. I've gone through all the measurements and everything is within a few inches (except the size of the shallow end) of what we had planned. The shallow end looks tiny. Its definitely smaller than originally planned, but we think it will be ok as we have the large sun shelf.
