New pool in Wexford, PA!

DB7BA952-ACEC-4478-92C4-5A7C1433442A.jpegView from other side yard. Again, because of the shape of our cul de sac lot, we have a pretty long back yard. All of this grass is also our yard. This was taken from our property line. We plan to enclose under the deck with trex lattice (where unfinished wood posts are under deck stairs). And recommendations on this would be appreciated!

Also under stairs is where PB built a small retaining wall on Thursday because they had to dig out to flatten whole area under the deck. The retaining wall is covered at the moment in that black plastic sheet as it is probably close to “cured”. Is that the right terminology??

I should also add that underneath stairs is where I want to have a grill and maybe other limited outdoor kitchen stuff (fridge??). Any recommendations for outdoor kitchen stuff under neath this deck area??

Can see top of where new small retaining wall was built. Should add that small retaining wall is just solid piece of concrete.

The ceiling under your deck - is that the water catcher stuff? We've been considering that for ours as well.

It looks beautiful so far!

Yes, thats right; the water catcher stuff. The edges need to be chaulked as there is some water leakage down the one side wall, but can be fixed pretty easily I think. We had the water proof underdecking done about 2 1/2 years after the original deck construction as part of this whole pool project. Really looking forward to having this space be part of the whole project!

SO much to say and comment on!! LOVE IT ALL!!!! Had so many questions and you answered each and every one with your pics and comments!!!

So lets start here-the decking steel. There needs to be something under the steel to lift is up some so the steel will be in the middle of the concrete. If they try to tell you "we lift it up as we pour" NOPE! You and I both know it will sink back down.

Getting a separate border right around the pool.
LOVE THIS! Acts as an accept for the pool! Are you going to color it or stamp it different to make it stand out?

The drain actually hooks into a down spout right on the one left hand corner of the deck.
Make sure the pipe leading from it is big enough to handle that amount of water.

We are getting four light posts on the outer edge.
What kind of light posts??? What kind of lights? Will you be able to turn them on and off on their own? Just in case you want only one or two or all of them on to set the mood.

Fence will be around entire border of pool and fence will be between stone posts.
What kind of fence?

We are considering artificial turf for this area so no mowing or trimming will need to be done inside fence area. Looking for opinions on this! Looking for opinions or pics on types of artificial turf if anyone has done this before!
Love this idea.....be know it can get hot. Get a cheap piece and see what you think after you let it sit in the sun.

Finished basement has a full bathroom so we will have easy bathroom access for pool goers
SO SMART!!! I would also have towel hooks in that room. I would love to see that room to give you some ideas on easy of use.

We have 3 daughters (twins age 8, and 6 year old)
WHAT FUN! Lucky kids!

This is where the automatic cover will be stored.
SMART move!!! Love your lot but those trees aka leaves had me worried!!

There will be a ladder in the middle of the stairs in shallow end that will work with the automatic cover.
Explain more please. I don't understand this one.

We have a play set outside of the fenced in pool area and don’t want kids or others to HAVE to enter pool area to go to basement.
SUPER SMART move!!! I am guessing you will have a gate right there that is self closing and locks.....

Helps water flow?
That is the pump that pulls the water in from the skimmer (rectangle box on the side of the pool right at the water line). The pump pulls in the water and sends it to your filter. It goes out from the filter to the returns in the pool. The returns have "eyeballs" that you can adjust to move the water where and how you want to.

Roast away!
You can take the mineral pack out! No biggie... OR you can take the whole thing out and put in a SWG as seen here: SWG How It Works - Further Reading

Pool filter
That is a DE filter. Need to find where you plan to back wash that as some areas have "rules" about where you can send it to. See if your PB knows about any rules for your area.

plan to enclose under the deck with trex lattice
That is what is all around the underside of our deck and we LOVE it!! SO easy to clean....spray with bleach water and call it good! It is also very easy to work with!

Should add that small retaining wall is just solid piece of concrete.

Photos of small retaining wall construction from Thursday
BUT they turned it from "a piece of concrete" into a work of art!!! NICE!!!! Seeing that makes me wonder just how wonderful the decking will come out if the same people are doing it!!

No idea on the decking steel. I'll ask my pool builder about this. Thank you, never had concrete work done before.

Yes, the separate border around the pool will have a separate stamped look different than the rest of the concrete decking.

Yes, I think the pipe is big enough, but how would i know before its done?

The light posts will have stone veneer similar to the siding of our house. Good question on the lights; not sure if they turn off individually or not, I have a feeling not and I'm fine with that. I think we need to select the actual type of light that will be top of the post; haven't done that yet.

Type of fence is just standard "pool safety fence" that is black. We had three choices; forget which one we went with.

Yes, the artificial turf project is one that will develop this summer during the first pool season. I think I have some smart neighbors, so hopefully will get some more in person in-put!

I'll post some pictures of the bathroom; honestly, its not much to look at. pretty small, but has a shower.

Yeah, planning to get the autocover was a big deal. Not only from a cost perspective, but seems like a good investment for the whole thing. We actually don't get a ton of leaves on that area of the lawn where the pool was built; the trees are set back. However, I'm sure its more than what I think.

Actually, its not a ladder, just a hand rail that is in the middle of the stairs in the shallow end.

I think we went away from a salt water generator because of the automatic cover; not sure we can have both?

Good feedback on the Trex lattice; that is also a project that will develop this summer.

Yes, the pool builder is definitely an expert in stone and concrete work; this is a large reason we went with him. He pretty much only does one project at a time. We watched 3 projects of his get done last year before ours was started in the fall. The concrete work on each one was very good.

Thank you so much for you comments/questions! I wish I would have been more proactive with posting questions and pictures sooner!

Let me help you think this one through..............Do you have gutters all along that side of the house already? If so then not much more water will go into the deck drains so it should be fine. Now IF there is a part of the roof where the water can free flow down onto the decking then you could have a problem as that will add a LOT of extra water to the system.

The light posts will have stone veneer similar to the siding of our house.
I am sorry I did not say this when I first saw your house......................I LOVE that stone work!!! It is so pretty! I love your whole house!! You are so lucky!!

I'll post some pictures of the bathroom; honestly, its not much to look at. pretty small, but has a shower.
I was thinking more of the room the door leads into.

Actually, its not a ladder, just a hand rail that is in the middle of the stairs in the shallow end.
Oh you will LOVE having that when people who are not as agile want to enjoy the pool! Good move!!

I think we went away from a salt water generator because of the automatic cover; not sure we can have both?
OH yes you can!!! You might not know this but all pools end up having salt in them over time. WHAT????? Yeah the chlorine adds salt that builds up over time. It is no big deal!

So I found a write up on your Nature 2. It uses two packs. One is the minerals and the other for chlorine tablets. Minerals are a HARD NO aka NEVER. chlorine tablets are okay for a little while but they have extra stuff in them that are good in limited amounts but will build up over time and cause you to have to drain and refill some of the water.

So saying that..............ask your PB if he will take it back. If not then you can keep it and only use the chlorine part until you get your CYA where it needs to be then use liquid chlorine.

We can and will help you get the best set up to keep your pool looking like a jewel!!

Most likely, the steel for the decking will be raised just prior to the pour, probably the day before. If it was raised sooner, it would create a huge tripping hazard and make working around it very difficult. When the steel is flat on the ground you can still walk on it or push wheelbarrows, etc with relative ease.

You're going to love having an autocover.

Based on your description, your PB's initials wouldnt be RG, would it?

I agree with @BMK BUT wanted to make sure it is done. I have seen a couple of builds where they did not do it so always say something now just to be on the safe side................should not have to but some people are lazy/cheap/whatever you want to call it. Better say it than be sorry I did not.

View attachment 133425View from next to deep end. Showing walkout from finished basement. This whole area is prepped and ready for stamped concrete. Fence will be around perimeter of whole area, BUT in this pic, we are going to have fence cut off area by basement walk out. The idea is we want folks to be able to access the basement walkout and not have to enter the pool area. Fence will go right through the concrete basically following where the canal drain is in this pic. My wife and I thought about this a lot and we think it’s the right decision. Looking for input here! We have a play set outside of the fenced in pool area and don’t want kids or others to HAVE to enter pool area to go to basement. Any comments or input welcome! This is one thing we could actually alter at this point in the project because fence hasn’t gone up yet.
To comment on the above, yes an automatic pool cover and a fence that cuts off any acces to house is great when you have kids. We put in a pool in 2011 with an auto cover and extra metal fence to block off access from our house and patio to pool. With 6 grandkids, we felt much safer that way. No one could get to pool area without the key to the gate and even then they needed a key to the auto cover. We are in the south hills of pittsburgh

Thank you for all the great notes and input! Yes, already have a few gutters on that side of the house already, I think the water flow for rain runoff should be fine. The PB has that canal drain hooked into two of the existing downspouts.

Yeah, I think I'm stuck with the Nature2 for now. I think I'm going to give it a year, not use the mineral tablets (thanks for that recommendation) and just use the chlorine tablets. Do you think I have to continue to use the chlorine tablets or is there another method? Also, what does "CYA" mean?

Yup, that was our thought process...multiple points of security! Thanks for the feedback!
