Pool company guy screwed up...

The color will "flash" but keep on going until the color stays. It is more of an "ish" color as in redish for most of these tests.
I'm using a speedstir so i can see the reaction taking place right around the drop but the stir causing it to go away quickly. It does turn "ish" color, but I've always stopped, rather than continue to drop to see if the color turns more blue.

Just put up new numbers:
pH: 7.8
FC: 5

FC fell 1 ppm since I tested last night. My SWG should have made 3.1ppm for the 13 hours it was on at 100%. Is that typical for now given my lowish CYA?

pH is still under 8 so I’ll wait another day before bringing it back down with MA.

@mknauss you asked for a picture of my automation. Here it is. I assume you’re thinking about how to have the small waterfall from spa to pool off?

We just got some rains so I went out to test and skim some leaves. Frog jumps right in and starts swimming around. Don’t have my basket yet. On my skimmer and he kept hopping off back into the pool every time I tried to pick him up. Was sadly forced to launch him a ways over the fence like a catapult. Should I have just let him swim?! Haha.

Frog was getting some exercise!

I looked at the RS manual and it shows being able to set up Spillover. You have to change a dip switch inside the panel. Up to you.

When you are ready it would be good to get your CYA up to 70 or so. That should drop your daily FC loss a bit.

Ha, I hope he survived the "jump".

I like the Spillover quite a bit - makes some nice sound. I'll just see how the pH lowering goes for a while before making a switch if it's impossible to keep it down.

I agree on the CYA. I want to wait until Saturday to be sure that any of the CYA that was poured into my skimmer has dissolved completely. But after that I'm all for suggestions on adding CYA to get where I need to go.

If my FC continues to drop, at what level should I think about raising it using chlorine?

If FC is dropping, raise it up to target level with chlorine and then adjust your SWCG so it creates more chlorine to stay in target range.

OK, Pool Math has a wide range for ideal FC so it's hard to know what to aim for. Once I get to 70 CYA, I can keep it between 3 and 10 it says. It's currently 5. If I gets to 4 I'll raise it 6 probably? For SWCG, to make more I'll need to run the pump longer than 13 hours a day I suppose. I'm just hesitant to push it hard until my CYA is correct.

Target is 5. Keep at that or a bit higher. I use 10% of CYA.

Anyone know why my DE filter doesn't seem to be increasing in pressure at all? Was last back washed on Friday and it really hasn't moved. Before it was moving up every few days. Does that just mean the water is pretty clean/clear? Or could it mean that there is not enough DE in the filter?

First time I heard someone complain that their water is too clean.

Go swim and stop worrying about your pool so much.

Either. You're the guy there with eyes on the pool. Does it look clear?

Once the stuff is filtered out and the water is clear, the filter doesn't have a lot to do. Mine will go months and months between cleanings.
