Pool company guy screwed up...

Is it possible to stopper the skimmers and then point off on handle towards main drain? Do they sell stoppers for the skimmers?

Just cut the stop off the handle rather then having 3 things to do and mess up.

@mknauss

Here are this evenings testing numbers. Would appreciate pointing me where to start with any adjustments. If you recall the CYA was poured in the skimmer by PB on Saturday morning so make take a while to adjust up. I assume the low combined chlorine is from swimmers (including little toddlers) yesterday?

Where are you -- in a SLAM, ready for OCLT, maintenance, ..... this thread has been every where!

Sorry, Ha. As you see above in my pictures I posted today, the water is clear and sparkling. So I’m in maintenance, but never got to ideal because I’m starting my takeover from the PB who was basically just dumping in shock weekly and maybe some other things hear and there like CYA and salt and dry pH minus (not muriatic acid). I’ve never done an OCLT but I certainly could do one tomorrow night if you want me to confirm that I’m not losing FC overnight!

As an aside, I asked if I should start a new thread for the chem discussion but someone said leave it here as the history is good to see.

It is fine to leave it here.

Lower Your pH to 7.4. As your TA is high it may rise fairly quickly. Keep taking it from 8 to 7.4 until your TA comes down.

Turn on the SWCG and match your generation to your FC loss each day. Keep FC in your target range.

Muriatic acid is the recommended addition for lowering pH, right? I need to go buy some.

As for matching the SWCG to the FC loss each day, is that something I just need to play with until I get it right? It’s currently running at 75% and the filter is running 13 hours a day (7am - 8pm).

Should I do an OCLT if I’ve never done one?

You should do an OCLT. Tonight or tomorrow.

Muriatic acid -- Lowes or Home Depot. Best to get 31.45%.

You can use Poolmath to see what % setting and pump run time adds 3 ppm FC to your pool each day. Start there and see if your FC rises or falls. Adjust accordingly.

Ok, going to do the OCLT tonight! My pump was running a bit later tonight so just shut it off and that should shut off the SWCG. Will wait 30 minutes, retest the chlorine and then get up at 6:30 before it comes back on at 7 to test again and will report back.

Looks like 100% for 13 hours a day gets me to 3.1ppm of chlorine output. So, tomorrow I will bump up to 100% assuming the OCLT is good.

Has anyone ever told you that you’re the man? Feels good to take control knowing someone has my back on this.
