Pool company guy screwed up...

Should I start a new thread in the pool chems forum to discuss my chem numbers and get advice on what to do from here or just keep this thread going?

Just a few pictures to give you all a sense of the pool right now. Despite some levels being off, I think it at least “looks” pretty clear.
 
Help, I’m doing something wrong. I tried to take my pump lid off after I thought I closed things properly, but of course I hadn’t and water started rushing up out of the pump. What did I miss? Pictures attached.

Got the lid on, but lost a lot of water from my spa. I guess somehow I had the spa drain open?! Ugh. Refilling the spa now with some water and then going to let circulate for 30 minutes and retest chems. I feel like an idiot but don’t know what I did wrong.

Before someone asks, pool pump is below water level.

:shock: what??? Oh no! "How do I make it STOP???" was the thought bubble over your head I bet!! I am glad you got it back on. Now to figure out what valve was not turned the correct way. I am guessing it was the one in the third pic. I THINK the off should be pointed away from any pipes. I will ping someone who knows about these kinds of valves for you.............Allen!! OH Allen! @ajw22 HELP!! please!

Thanks, but the reality is that the pool company has the water looking that good, not me. Despite the chem levels not being TFP optimal.

Yes, I was not so happy. Took some force and finesse to get everything back on while water was gushing out. Not to mention the o ring is probably stretched out because it didn’t want to stay seated properly in the cap! Lost quite a bit of water from the spa (which is the pipe in the third pic at the bottom).

Don’t open the pump lid when in spa mode and then close Valve 1 before @Pperc15 opens the pump lid. Make sure you open Valve 1 before you turn on the pump. The risk of closing Valve 1 is you forget to open it which can damage something.

I’m not following. What should the handles be set to? How do I close valve 1? The off can either be facing skimmers or main drain....

Yeah, you have a stop on the handle to prevent you from putting OFF over the input pipe. But then PB did not fully think through pump being below the pool. You can cut off the stop on the handle that prevents the turning as long as you understand the risk. You can always buy a replacement handle if you want to restore the stop.

Seriously? So every time they were emptying my pump basket they were allowing water to gush out? Wtf. Is it likely they would just come and back wash each week and not empty the basket / open the pump lid? That’s kind of insane.
 
You will have to take the actuator off and then use the handle to point the off towards the pump. That will eliminate the water flow to the pump.

My suggestion accomplishes the same thing and does not require removing the actuator every time the pump basket is opened.

That’s nuts. I feel like I want to call out PB if I see him on Friday and ask how he was emptying pump basket?!

Is it possible to stopper the skimmers and then point off on handle towards main drain? Do they sell stoppers for the skimmers?

Pool guys are used to dealing with water gushing out. Remove the lid, pull the basket out quickly, get the lid back on, clean the basket, repeat to install the basket back in pump.
