New build in nc. Halfway point!!!

Also, a quick question. After being in the pool yesterday for the first time we noticed alot of low places in the floor of the shallow. Like indentions or small hills and valleys about the size of your foot all across the floor. Basically like its not completely flat and definitely not level across there. Not even close. I know he used vermiculite concrete mix under the liner which is pretty soft and porous so will the weight of the water even all this out? I was pretty surprised that they spent almost 2 full days sanding this thing down and it never got level. Its the first thing I'll be talking to him about Monday. Just wondering if this is normal? If not, it seems like we need to get this fixed before he goes any further.

So what is to stop the water in the shelf from running back to the pool? That one is very low. You say he said he would add 90 degree fitting to raise the water level. Make sure to take pics so we can learn with you.

I am going to have to go back and look at the plumbing pics to trace the pipes.

As you can tell by now I LOVE knowing how things work and ask a million questions (sorry LOL) but think it is neat and important to know just things work so you can trouble shoot as needed.

You might want to sweep the dirt in there out so it does not stain that pretty shelf when it rains.

You must have been typing at the same time I was.

The bottom-it is normal to have some imperfections but that sounds like it is from where they had to fix the slop. Can you pick out a pic that shows the finished work after they fix that area? What does it look like?

I like that color of the shelf. Makes me like fiberglass shells much more. Very cool.

I get get that I r saying. So the drain back to the pool is like a skimmer almost bit not really. I guess water will not flow back if the pump is running cause u will have watercturnover but if pump is not running I will have to watch the fc level in that fiberglass unit.

What so u think Kim. Almost like u will need to test the pool and shelf as 2 diff bodies of water. Cause the turnover on that shelf will be way way lower han the pool along with it being shallow. When the shelf is part of the pool the turnover is the same

does that make sense to u both? I might be wrong but will be interesting to see once it’s filled and is getting crushed with sun during the day.

I still think ita wicked cool though !

I am guessing the height of those drain holes will just basically catch any overflow of water in the shelf and push it into the pool but I have no clue what will keep the pool from continuously pushing water back into the shelf. Maybe the angle of the pipe. I have plenty of questions for the builder tomorrow. Keep the questions coming because I am so new to this I dont even know what to ask so an experienced point of view is extremely helpful in educating me about the process of my build. I really appreciate your input. As far as the shelf, we read your comment and my wife and I both got in the shelf and swept it out and wiped it down. Definitely dont want any stains in there! And yes, I will definitely keep the pics coming. Im travelling again this week but as my wife sends em to me I'll put em on here.

Thanks! There were about 4 other colors to choose from but since we had settled on the gold pebble liner we knew that sand color would be the one. Ok, so I will have to keep an eye on the water in the shelf cause its in different conditions than the rest of the pool. I will definitely stay on top of that and let you know how it turns out. No electricity is currently running to the pool but the electrician will be here tomorrow to set the light in the shelf and turn everything on, I think. We picked up 18 bags of salt and some shock so we're ready to get this thing going! I'll keep you guys posted

No worries...
It’s a Latham product & has been out for years with no problems.

Have photos of piping schematic?

Im sorry, I dont. All I have is the blueprint I posted in the first post. That is all the paperwork I was given. I'll see if I can get one from the builder tomorrow so I can put it on here.

Lol! Im working on it Kim.

I am learning about this shelf with you but like my husband will say when I am asking these kinds of questions of him........I tend to go a little deeper in wanting to know the whys and hows so it makes him think it through more and in the end the project ends up being better than it would have been.

Make sure to write down all of your questions and his answers. That way you will not forget anything.

Good job cleaning the shelf up. If your dirt is anything like ours it is a good thing you got it out. No white clothes or shoes allowed with working in that mess as there is no getting the stain out!

You are awesome Kim and thank you very much for all of your help. I will have a list waiting for him tomorrow! And yes, that red clay is definitely something special!

There are several ways to handle these features. Water in transit can be tricky, I won’t comment unless their is an operational or safety issue.
I’m not inclined to step on the contractors toes.

After heavy rain yesterday and last night, its a muddy mess back there. Im heading out soon and I havent seen or heard from the builder or electrician. Expecting rain here for the next couple of days so I dont know if that will hold us up or not. My wife will be here tomorrow to get our questions answered if anybody does come. Also, I checked the permit bag for a piping schematic and I did not see one. I am gonna ask for one so I can post it on here for you guys

Looks good I like the step add on goes well w shape of pool. The sunahelf is rly nice. I don't like the way he plumbed it tho. He's doing a good job but I would like to see stone for backfill the clay is gonna move around and settle u cannot compact it properly in stages hoping ur deck stays solid for the long haul. The pad is basic 1 suction 2 return branches which is fine but he should have added a return in sunahelf other than waterfall. Idk if the shelf had holes predrilled if not he shoulda asked how deep u wanted it. Reason is without the fall running water will be stagnant the piping in those is downhill to pool it's a drain won't come back up. The fall will raise ur PH running everyday to keep water nice a small return fitting would keep it mixed all the time. He may be able to T the waterfall line still and out in an irrigation box and still run a return for u that's what I would do at this point. Regardless I like the design and the choices u made looks rly nice will be great when finished

The shelf can be ordered pre punched. Port nearest pool is essentially an equalizer.
