Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

At the end of the day - with regards to the PH test, as long as the colour is not overly 'yellow' and not overly 'pink' then you are in the ball park so to speak.

I would not get hung up too much on whether it is 7.2 Vs 7.4 or 7.4 Vs 7.6.

You could always test the sample which is 7.2 PH to give you an idea of exactly how orange-yellow that looks like in the flesh. Use that as a guide for the bottom end of your PH range.

I have had a bit of rain over the last few weeks (enough to backwash twice) but in reality my levels have not really moved enough that it became noticeable to me.

Yeah, I’m trying to not get too hung up on it. It’s definitely not too yellow. Not even orange. As for too pink - that’s what I’m trying to determine. Good to hear your levels didn’t change much with the rain. That’s one less thing to worry about.

I just retested the ph. Trying to compare to photos above. It’s definitely dark pink but I don’t think super hot pink but then I do need new glasses! Want to take a guess?

No need to consider CH until/unless you start seeing CSI below -0.3, based on new test results. Main thing I'm trying to say is don't worry about the future, or be trying to add things in anticipation.

And yep, to clarify, slow down both the testing and pH adjustment to twice a week.

So pb had planned on a visit today so I messaged asking if he could undo the pump lid for me and put it back on not quite as tight. No response but came home from work to a clean pump basket! Happy days as I had no idea how I was going to get that thing off and it was getting due for a clean.

Ph reading 7.2 on chlorinator on my return. Was 7.6 when left this morning. Hmm. Either some acid was dumped or I don’t know [emoji848] Haven’t tested myself yet but tempted to to see what 7.2 looks like lol. It’s now reading 7.3. They have it set to 7.4 as apparently it can have a tendency to settle a couple of points above so aiming for 7.6 actual ph with this set level. Going to check out equipment pad soon and see if maybe my probe might have been replaced but that would be too much to hope for. I’d say he’s been and had a tinker with it. Problem being though if this is the case and my ph was 7.6 as last nights testing and the chlorinator indicated why would he have pushed it down to 7.2 since he was the one to want it sitting around 7.6? My confusion grows by the day! Anyway I’m not going to get too caught up in the ph. It does make a big difference to my csi though so would be handy to have a rough idea where it’s at for that calculation alone.

Yes, but can you now remove the lid...

The PB must have altered the PH level, cant see it changing that much all on its own - Perform a quick test to confirm.

A PH of around 7.2 will be easy to spot (colour wise) as it will have a definite orange cast to it.

Very excited about the lid being taken off. No idea how he did it but I guess they have their ways... and brute strength! I will make sure I can actually remove it myself now on the weekend.

Yes somehow acid has been added and after checking my drum I’d say that’s where the acid came from as it still had several days of acid left in it. Tonight it was pretty much empty.

Just checked and I have shiny new probe! Wondering whether perhaps the new probe had it auto dumping acid all day to bring it down and it went .2 over (since this is the variance either side)? Hmm. More likely someone told it manually dump that acid but it definitely came from my drum. Have just filled it up in bad lighting. I was good and added the two empty jugs of water in first then the jug of acid. Currently priming the system and probably will do another one or two primes.

As far as the probe placement goes according to Astral the placement is fine. I have the name of the guy who advised this if it’s a problem down the track. My thinking is that if debris passing by the probe damaged it then it is unlikely to be a problem in the future since all that shale and concrete is now flushed out of the pipes. We will see I guess. Hoping this is the fix to everything. Please cross your fingers for me. I have felt like there was an issue with the probe since pretty much day one so I really hope that was the problem.

Fingers crossed....!

On a lighter note - My paving supplier called this afternoon to advise that my paving/coping is in stock...YaY...!

Probably have it delivered sometime next week.

That is excellent news! I can’t wait to see it down. I’m sure it will be worth the delay. Will make such a difference to your pool area.

I read the ph at 7.4 so quite likely the probe is correct. Actually want it up a little so will adjust the settings to 7.6 I think. Csi not great at 7.3/7.4.

This might sound contrary to my earlier advice, but it's not exactly, lol. Anyway, if there's big changes, like new sensor, adopting a different target, etc., then yep, test often! Once things stabilise, then you can relax a bit on the pH adjustments as I mentioned earlier.

Glad to hear you got the new sensor :)

That was my thinking too and I couldn’t help myself lol. My target needs to be around 7.7/7.8 I think to keep things where they should be. Will get it there slowly and hopefully it stays around that point. Clean pump basket, new sensor, full tank of acid. Ready to go for hopefully a successful weekend of chemistry. Hubby just told me we should just get poolwerx in [emoji35]... you can imagine my response!
