Precisely.....I guess maybe because you could potentially bypass a heater and then lose the bonding. Funny that you have to have a concrete deck bonded because concrete can conduct electricity but a concrete pool that is loaded with rebar somehow can't conduct enough electricity to be considered a bonded surface....

Oh well, code is not meant to be rational, just followed ....
 
Does the brass plug have 9 square inches in contact with the water?

If the heat exchanger is bonded and in continuous contact with the water, it can serve as the water bond.

I think Matt hit it on the head about taking the heater out of the loop but even that isn't something that's very practical. The city probably requires the water bond on all pools because not everyone puts in a heater and they want to avoid the grey area. Corona also requires 4" of washed plaster sand below and above all of the plumbing runs, I've seen guys fail the rough plumbing inspection because there wasn't enough sand.

Yep, that is true. I have already received a notice from Los Angeles County based on the permits that were pulled, asking the value of my "improvements". The permit hasn't even been closed out yet. So I expect to get a reassessment for this Winter's property taxes... Now I understand why folks doing "minor' improvements are hesitant to get a permit.
 
I can get behind sand in the trench as native soils tend to be rock filled and the cyclical motion of the water pipes can easily be damaged by an errant stone. Now I would say use the cheapest sand possible but sand in the trench is a good thing. I think around here some of the old time plumbers use straw above the pipe so if you go digging you know when you're about to hit something.

I've had people from the county stop by on projects that are mid construction to determine the percentage of the completed project they can tax :shock:

Sand is a good idea but to inspect and fail for it is crazy :hammer:
 
Nice set of plans Brian! I also liked the plan with the steps, but oh well. Hopefully they will be great clients for you.

I'm not sure who titles your drawings. But for future reference, the word is spelled Dimensions, not Dementions, unless of course one is suffering from dementia. :laughblue:

I have a brass water bonding also. Mine is just above the sub grade though. they require it out here.

crazy plumbing job! whole lot going on there. looks good. i couldn't get over how quick the rebar went also. there were 3 guys. 2 guys i nether 50's and a younger kid like 20 ish. the 2 older guys put him to shame. i came out after 2 hrs to see if they needed anything and the young kid looked like he needed a stretcher! those 2 guys were animals. so quick and efficient.

crazy you pool guys are totally diff then the house industry. well at least up by me where it's a 4 month strike when the iron is hot kinda job. house subs are like ya maybe we will do little here today and a little there today. . . it's so diff. my plaster guys were going to another job 3 hours away when they were leaving me. i didn't know what to say to them. i felt so bad just cause they prob were literally going to be working in the dark by then.

I scheduled shotcrete a week and a half in advance because I know how busy things are right now. I called the guy on my way to the job site to get everything confirmed and was delightfully surprised to hear him say they weren't coming to my job because they were behind. I guess he couldn't have let me know that before I made the trip to the house and the homeowner took the day off to be there.

I cancelled this job with him and two others that were scheduled (one of which was 120 yards). I also asked that he deletes my phone number.

I have since found a new shotcrete sub that does great work and more importantly, communicates often.

It doesn't take much to please me:

1.) Answer your phone and if not at least call back
2.) Show up when you say you're going to
3.) Do what you are supposed to do

That's it to make it on my list...

While the pool was being shot, I was busy back filling trenches and running the drain pipes for the pool deck.

I estimated 41 yards of shotcrete and it came in right at 40... I'll take it!
