I'm seriously considering purchasing a hot tub and considering acrylic tubs with speakers. Was told plastic is more durable than acrylic and tubs with speakers are pointless because you barely hear your music over the jets and pump. Is this true? Are tubs with BT speakers overrated? Please let me know what your experience has been.

I recently bought a house that came with a pool but no information about the equipment. It's all Pentair (EasyTouch control panel, cartridge filter, and pump), and there's a sticker on the panel that says the final inspection was done in October of 2013.

The pool has a light that I believe is a Pentair Intellibrite. I've attached a picture of a light that looks similar. The light is not attached to the control panel, but has a separate light switch. The light turns on, and by flipping the switch a couple of times it can cycle through colors or be made to stop on a color. I figured this much out through trial and error.

Recently the light has started flashing six times after I turn it on. Like, I'll flip it on, it'll turn off-on by itself six times in a row, and then it stays on. I have no idea what this means. I've found some old Intellibrite manuals that talk about flipping the switch to control a bunch of different modes, but the manuals make no mention of any off-on behavior like this that comes from the light. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Hello all- I am new here but looking for advice. We just had new concrete poured around an old pool that was here when we bought the house. When the concrete was laid- the holes for our only ladder were covered up. We cant find anyone to fix this for us and its the only ladder we have. Right now we have no way into or out of the pool and its so frustrating that we cant use it. We had a metal ladder in the shallow end before we had the construction done.

Any advice anyone?

I recently noticed that my pool lights are not turning on. I have a Pentair Automation system and PAL Evenglow lights linked via a PAL PCR-4 box. I opened the PCR-4 box and realized no power was getting to it (the wifi lights were turned off so I assumed no power was flowing to it from the automation box). When I looked at the automation box, I flipped the breakers and nothing changed. Next, I tested the GFCI on the automation box, which the PCR-4 connects to. After pressing the "Test" button, I cannot get it to reset now. I don't know if this was the original issue, or if it was something else.

I need help with the following:

1. Assist me with getting the GFCI to reset
2. Assist me with identifying and fixing the issue for what the lights stopped working.

I currently have a Sta-rite PLD50 filter on my pool. Not sure how old it is but we’ve had it for 3 years and got from a friend. The cartridge needs to be replaced but I’ve seen $260-399 for it to be replaced. Should I replace it or switch to a different filter? There is no backwash and I’m currently trying to clear the pool and I’ve used 18 lbs of de and it’s still not clear.

My name is Jim,. I am originally from Upstate NY, had a vinyl liner pool for 20 years, relocated to FL in 2021.

I now have a 14 x 28 in ground pool with sun shelf and jacuzzi, gunite with diamond coat, water from hose filled 3 weeks ago, saline generator on x 1 week.

So far so good, but I am having issue with ph 9 per meter, and at least 8.4 per test strip. I am still brushing pool surfaces as often asI can.

Any advice about ph ?

I have a 11,400 gallon above ground pool with a sand filter. I backwash and rinse 1x a day. I don't let it get to the point that it tells me it needs backwashed.

I opened the pool on May 30th. Last winter it got convered when it was green. Since I've opened the pool the first 2 weeks were a loss. Then I started your SLAM process and things cleared up very well but I had a slight tint to the water. Aqua like. Not green but aqua color. Readings from a pool store said we had 0.3ppm copper and 900ppb phosphorus. I ignored these as they were low. Then after another week I put in phosphate remove and the pool became even more of a blue aqua... somewhat clearer. I then used a metal out just 2 days ago. Back to the aqua.

My pool levels are holding constant maintaining Cc and pH. The pool doesn't feel like there's algae. I've vacuumed to filter and to waste. Brush 2x a day.

If it weren't for the aqua color. I'd say I was good.... but it's still there. Finally I tried the mustard algae algaecide. No visible change.

I recently upgraded to a variable speed pump as my old one was about to go out.

I chose one of the higher HP Jandy models and have tried to program low speed and high speed filtration.

When I program only variable speed options (VSP1 Spd Adj), the program never turns on the pump. I have to program "filter pump" into the program and then the pump turns on. However, when it is on, the pump changes between low speed (2150) and high speed (3250) at random.

I have cleared out all of the programs and rebooted the iAqualink system and still have the same issue.

Does anyone have a sense of what could be causing this? I'd like to be able to know how much high speed filtration I am getting.

This was an area in the shotcrete that was weeping from ground water. The PB put some hydraulic cement and water proofing over it but as you can see it still weeped. Will this be an issue once the pebble aggregate is installed?

I have severe calcium scaling through the entire surface of the pool. Now it looks like I have black algae problem as well. I was away on vacation for a week and had the salt cell on at 40%. Came back today and my FC is at zero and seeing black staining all around the pool surface. Should I treat the black algae first or get rid of the calcium scaling first? I have plenty of Scaletec plus bottles and plan on using them. Thanks!

I haven't been able to remove these stains from my pool since I bought my home less than a year ago, when I got my home the water was dark green and after clearing it up those stains remained, not sure if they were there before.

The water is balanced, I have already used Cal Hypo shock, daily brushing and I still didn't see a difference, a pool company even used phosphate remover. Any product that you could suggest that could help get rid of those stains?

A pool company suggests to drain the pool and acid wash it but it is already quite hot in Phoenix, AZ (between 85-110 degrees daily) so I wouldn't like to that the risk of getting cracks.

I recently had repair person change out the band and duck fitting in my 2 yr old pump. Today I realized it has not stopped running for over 24 hrs. The pump was hot to the touch. I turned it off. Why would this keep running? It had drained my 35 gallon chlorinator tank in this 24 hr pd. What may be wrong and how do I fix it?

I am in a middle of replacing all the piping and most of the equipment in my aboveground pool. I decided to go with 2" piping everywhere. I am using a Pentair SuperFlo VST pump (342002). After taking the pump out of the box, I realized that the pump comes with unions for 1.5" pipe (Pentair part 350093) (this is according to my plumber):





Can someone recommend a union designed for a 2" pipe? I would rather not use reducers, etc. - this defeats the point of using the 2" pipe.

So I bought a 24x12 rectangular intex pool. I’ve leveled with a skid steer and added sand. My question is the pressure treated lumber that goes under the pool braces. Should I make them level with the sand then put down the ground cloth and liner or put the ground cloth down first then dig under the cloth to make the pressure treated lumber level with the sand? Help!

Hi new to pools and this community site. I recently built a pool first time for me owning a pool. We got the prowler 930w robot but we could net never get past the qr scan on the Pentair home app. Pretty much add device click prowler 930w and it says scan QR code to connect however no camera or anything happens to allow the actual scan. If I select the continue button it searches and after while fails to find robot, every time. My wife and I work and can’t ever seem to be available to talk to Pentair tech support during their business hours since we are on the west coast. I’ve reached out to them via email but they say we need to contact them and talk over phone for troubleshooting. The robot works and we use it However it’s just not on our Pentair home app and we can’t monitor the robot and other things you’d be able to see and control on the app. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a ton of iron at the bottom of pool, when trying to vacuum to waste, there is no suction. It is a brand new filter with 6 valve top.

I’ve got a simple question. I am phasing out using tri chlor tabs (and therefore, the in-line chlorinator). I’m using liquid bleach now. Do I need to adjust my pump speed down since I don’t need the high pressure to go through the chlorinator?

Hi! I have a Jandy TruClear SWG that treats up to size 35k gallon pool. My pool is 20k gallons. We have been running it at 100% 24/7 because we haven't learned what to change the setting to yet. We decided to leave it at that setting while we focused on balancing the pool. I am now losing chlorine and my SWG says low chlorine.

Here are my test results (Taylor test kits):
Salt - 3400 ppm
FC - 1.0
CC- .5
PH - 7.8
TA- 210
CYA- 50

How would you move forward? I have salt and chlorine I can add but wanted some direction regarding the SWG first.

I just had a new skimmer installed and of course the weir door that came with it is getting stuck. I'm going to have to take it out and shave it down or replace it. Problem is I cannot for the life of me get it out. It's the style that has two tabs on the sides that just slip into holes on the side of the skimmer. Real easy to get in, impossible to get out:

I use a water softener that was installed in our home when we purchased it. I'm wondering if I can use the Calcium Hardness part of my test kit to get an idea if the softener is set to the right setting? I know that hardness is not just Calcium. Is there a proxy I can use to estimate total hardness or a way to modify the test using reagents in my K-2006 kit to test total hardness? And how does the conversion to grams of hardness work? Just upgraded burnt out VSP Pentair to Inteliflow 3HP, set 24 hr/day, “low” I believe, by Tech. Electrician’s wife, the pool savvy one who purchased pump for me didn’t come with him, couldn’t ask her questions!
My Cartrdge filter is operating at much lower pressure: 5 vs 15 on old one. Skimmers don’t have much in them either but water looks clear. Is this normal?

I recently adjusted my auto fill level raising the water level above the top of the skimmer weir. Around the same time, surface skimming essentially stopped. Is this an expected result? The top of the weir is under water, so surface debris aren't sucked into skimmer?

My pool looks good from outside but when I open my eyes underwater is very cloudy and I can barely see. We are listing our house for sale soon and I am afraid my water may turn green when we have buyers coming to look at it. We cleaned the pump filters today and they were not too bad. I did an overnight loss test and it was 0.5. Here are some more numbers:

FC: 5.5
CC: 0
CYA: 30. I have been wanting to raise this a little and I had chlorine pucks leftover from the previous owner so I have been putting some pucks in the water to raise CYA. I am afraid I will get yelled at for doing this.
TA: 80
Ph: 7.8
CH: I haven't tested because I live in AZ and I expect high CH.

What could be the cause of the cloudy water? Thank you so much!

Hi TFP, I was wondering if I can mix Cal-Hypo with pool water in the same bucket as I previously used for mixing Dry Acid or Calcium + (Not 100% sure what chemical that is) (Both before turning to the TFP methods).
