pavers vs concrete vs tiles

i have attached some pics - doesn't look horrible for 27 years old - they did a good job with the plaster even though some staining from leaves or late openings over the years - it will lighten up a bit as the chlorine bleaches them out
the cement decking looks extra dirty cause we just opened on 3 days ago and due to constant rain havent had a chance to power washed the decking yet
also they poured concrete right up against the foundation without using a waterproof membrane so that caused water to sit against the house and then rotting of the facia boards and rotting of the floor joists after 10 years (discovered during basement french drain work) so had to have a crew jackhammer out 8 feet of the concrete replace the facia boards and repair joists then put in a membrane and replace the concrete with grey Trex.
also you see the ineffective white drainage line that is cracking and just sits on top of subdecking material and doesn't really drain anything.
i am looking for ideas from a couple renovation companies that i will meet with this summer....since everything is linked and i hate the decking i will probably need to replace everything once i start...but any advice or feedback is welcome including what you think it will cost....of course if the price is too high it may not be worth the total renovation but i want to go down the path of getting solid estimates first. Raising the water level

Hi,

I want to raise the water level of my pool to where the calcium line in the first picture is. However, I was adjusting the autofill valve and noticed a hole just behind it that's half filled with water. Is that an overflow drain?

I'm worried if I raise the water level it might just drain away through that hole. It's strange that the hole already has water in it, even tho the pool's water level is currently about 3 inches below the pool main overflow drain, shouldn't they be level?

Thanks,
Roger

New Construction Design Feedback

Hello everyone! This is my first post as a new pool owner (to-be) for a new home construction project.

I currently have a design that was made by our architect and then the design put into construction plans with the assistance with a national pool builder (Platinum Pools by Cody)
Overall the pool seems to fit what we want to accomplish which is:
- lap swimming
- typical pool games (volleyball, basketball)

My question is more about the equipment selected which is in the drawings I've attached. Currently setup for Jandy equipment. Is the pump sized well? It's a cartridge setup, but wondering if Sand is better?

During construction, we have the option to plumb for gas for a future heater OR I've been considering an electric heat pump/chiller type option so we can use the lap pool for a longer season in Houston, TX. It seems that the gas heater works fast but is much more expensive long term while heat pumps seem to have mixed experiences from talking to the pool companies. Not sure if its a lack of experience or selection of equipment? Would like feedback on that as well.
Why are we waiting to put the heating option after construction? Because the builder puts a markup on it and I'm trying to go as barebones during the initial install and just plumb for things we can add on without the mark up.

My hope is to use ultimately have the automation setup using the Pool Attendant by Poolside. I'm a complete newb to pool setup so I've been trying to read as much as I can through the pool school but I'd like to try and set this pool up with as little re-work.

Pergola Waterfall Feature Questions

Single pump?

Depends on the kind of waterfall. A sheer descent requires a filter, an open pipe with a rock waterfall does not.
I'd be my current 2.7hp VS pump. HERE is what i want to do. A streamfall WF, in the video it looks like the waterfalls had their own pump based on the video.

Pentair MasterTemp 400 is Dead

I went out to fire up my Pentair MasterTemp 400 Pool Heater for the first time this season and found it to be dead. I checked power coming into the heater, then opened it up to look for fuses and found the 24VAC fuse. The Fireman's switch had already been jumped. I check on the bottom side of the fuse and read ~ 24VAC, checked on the controller side and it was ~ 0VAC. I ran a jumper across the fuse to see if I could bring the controller back to life and something on the controller board popped and smoked. The story I am going with at the dinner table is the controller board was bad, had a short, blew the fuse and needed to be replaced.

I happened across this site while looking for a replacement board and thought I'd ask one of the experts if there is anything else I should look at before I go out and purchase a new controller board, I am thinking at a minimum a visual inspection to confirm I can find the blown component? If anyone has a recommendation as to the best place to pick-up a replacement it would be very much appreciated!

A little help please.... With 23K gallon inground pebble tech pool

Okay,

My Reagents came in and I was able to run a test panel prior to adding a gallon of LC this morning.

I have the "share" feature enabled but not sure exactly how that feature works, so I am posting the results here:

==========================================RoboPool------------------------------------------ Build Type: Plaster Volume: 25000 gallons Chemistry: Liquid Chlorine------------------------------------------ Latest Test Result Summary: FC: 2.0 (9 minutes ago) CC: 2.0 (9 minutes ago) pH: 7.8 (9 minutes ago) TA: 80 (9 minutes ago) CH: 100 (9 minutes ago) CYA: 20 (9 minutes ago) TEMPERATURE: 70° (9 minutes ago) CSI: -0.37 (9 minutes ago)==========================================------------------------------------------Test Results 05-15-2025 @ 02:22 PM------------------------------------------ Free Chlorine: 2.0 Combined Chlorine: 2.0 pH: 7.8 Total Alkalinity: 80 Calcium Hardness: 100 CYA: 20 Temperature: 70°F CSI: -0.37

For the CYA test, I did as the instructions stated however I could always see the black dot at the bottom of the tube and slowly added the entire contents of the red capped mixing squeeze bottle. . Around 1/3 to 1/2 way filled the dot became cloudy but was still visible all the way until it was filled to the top.

I think I am now ready for the Pro's here to tell me how I need to treat my water.

Water is nice and clear and I used a brushed vacuum head to vacuum the light algae that was forming around the upper 2-4' perimeter of the pool wall about 4-5 days ago.

Also any guidance on how many hours to run the Quad 80 D.E. filter per day? And also the Pool Sweep? I have separate timers for each.

Thank you!

pH rising super fast

TLDR: my pH is rising super fast. My pool should be pretty balanced. I suspect the TA.

Metrics:
22000 gallon pool. Built-in spa with spillover. Sun shelf with 2 returns aimed upwards.
CYA 50
Chlorine 6
TA 40
Calcium Hardness 400
CYA 50ppm

Background:

[1] I took the pool from algea to super clear following the PoolSchool's amazing content.
Fixed CYA, pH, did SLAM, everything is clear and pretty, now I'm in maintenance mode.
Only using liquid chlorine, checking daily.

[2] My chlorine levels drops at a reasonable rate and I add more liquid chlorine every few days.

[3] My biggest problem is my pH - it keeps rising from 7.2 to 8+ (dark pink) in a matter of 2 days.
I slowed down the pool pump speed, and turned off the returns in the sun shelf that used to create a fountain effect,
so all my water is gliding along (no splashes), thus minimizing aeration.

[4] I suspect my TA levels are not good (already ordered bags of baking soda), but I am not sure.
I've seen posts saying TA being too low will drag pH down, but my TA is low and my pH is not going down at all.

I'd LOVE to figure out pH and make it more stable. Hate pouring all this muriatic acid.

Trying to find a solution for a bomgie pool pump plumbing from intex sand filter to pump

Yepp, I did something a little different and a lot easier imo.

Bought two of these:

Used the Intex collars that came with the hose that comes with the Intex SWG. Sanded them 320 and then 2000 grit.

Then put it on the machine and used PVC coupling. Ez

I used the same process with success.
