Wow time to open!

I haven't been paying attention to the pool with such a mild winter. MD had no snow at all this year. Checked water temp yesterday and I am already at 57! That is a good 2-3 weeks early. I'll pull the top this weekend and start cleaning up the water. I think I have 3 or so gallons of bleach from last year which will all go in.

The trees seem to know as the plums are all blooming early as well and usually I have plum flower pedals clogging up the skimmer baskets shortly after opening. I just hope they hold off falling until I get the top off and folded so I don't end up putting it away full of plum flowers.

Anyone else opening early due to warmer than usual weather?

I'm close. The daffodils are all up and the grass is more green than yellow, with the green gaining ground everyday.

This weekend we were walking the dogs enjoying mid 60s in Tshirts like it was summer. But the last few mornings have been in the low 30s so we're not quite there yet.

My water temp was 56 on Saturday- probably have everything hooked up by the weekend & will just run the pool with the cover on for a while. The little pods are falling so I don’t really wanna fight with those yet. Oh, and the pollen!

Your up high Marty. Down here in the valley it’s warmed up a bit. Yesterday was 82F and the same today. My pool water is at the mid-60’s so I have started paying attention to it again. SWG is cranking out lots of chlorine. My FC was 10+ yesterday. My CYA is a 50ppm so I need to add some. My main task though is to clean out the DE filter and get the waterfall running again (it’s then only part of my pool that I somewhat “winterize”).

Pool season is here in the desert southwest.

Our elevation is 450’. It did get to 75F yesterday, but 60’s on tap into next week. Still too darn cold. I historically have put the solar cover on by now as the water is in the mid 70’s and air in mid 80’s.

Wow, you’re practically under water!! I think Tucson proper is roughly 2000ft and then Phoenix is a bit lower. Once you go south of Tucson or North of Phoenix, the elevation climbs up. Even a few miles south of me will get more rain/precipitation than we do.

Blowing off the pool deck so I can get to the pool house door. Might be a little while before I can open the pool. 14 degrees this morning with warmer weather in sight!

I have a lot of cleanup to do on my pool and I still am not quite in the physical shape to do it! I am higher than Matt at 3300' but I also have a house I plan on retiring to right on the border (8.5 miles from it exactly) in Cochise county. That's at 4500'. (52 miles apart as the crow flies, has the Santa Ritas in the way though) The average difference in temperature is -10F from Corona de Tucson to Hereford year around. Nice in the summer. It freezes at night down there in the winter! It's probably -2 from the airport to Corona.

Only in Arizona does the rivers flow from South to North and it get colder the farther South you go, but that is true from Phoenix south.

I think I am going to have to replace the cell on my SWCG also. Not looking forward to shelling $500+ out for it. The cell alone is close to what I paid for the system in 2019...

Bullhead City gets freaking hot in the summer....

Are you still within the 4 years? If so you should only have to pay 70% for a replacement

Yeah.... probably not in the three year window now because I put it on the side this winter. It failed right about the time the water got cold. I need to get on it, but I have been hammered inside and outside of work for the last three months. Still it's expensive at 70%. I need to do a water change to fix CH so no matter what I won't use the new cell until I get CH in range again. I haven't even put the replacement display board in yet as about the time I had planned for the water change and fixing the display, I ended up in the hospital. It's been a rough couple of years for me that's for sure!

I feel lucky the only thing I have lost in the past 6 seasons is a SWG cell which was replaced under warranty and a heater core @$1000 that I repaired myself. I cross my fingers now though. Plaster is also in great shape.

Alas, that means we’ll be closing soon. Easter is normally about that time for us. I’ll have to figure out how to switch our solar controller over to winter mode and think about turning my chlorinator down a bit. At least it will be a bit cooler for all those outside jobs.

It's been nearly as cold this winter in Arizona as the warmest winter I remember in the Upper Midwest. I think we might have another 7-10 days of the below normal too but hopefully Easter will be right about the time that those of us (not me) with heaters and money can start to swim again. I suppose you are right about the cell. It's supposed to last for 4 years and it lasted 2.5 years, and the water kinda sucks here in Tucson. That's about as good as it gets in the 2020's. I just wish I didn't have the $500's-$1500's going out the window as much as I have in the last couple of years.

Plan here is April 25th, but I already have pool-fever.

Water is still in the low 40s, but it is liquid now ! We're still dropping below freezing most nights. Daytime temps are mid 40s, although supposed to hit 70 one day next week. 15 day forecast still has us in the mid-high 40s to 50s, so I seriously doubt the water is going to hit 60 without some serious external assistance.

Next couple weeks are going to be getting all the spring yard work done so that when pool-time gets here, I can actually enjoy it

I opened yesterday! The things falling from the trees are super annoying but I opened clear so that’s all I care about lol. Looks like I’ll have to grab a skimmer sock.

Just pulled the top. Wonderful sunny day here no wind and 65. Pool looks pretty good. After all was mixed getting the first go at the leaves out water temp shows 51. So I am good for awhile without any chlorine added. I'll finish filling tonight and crack the valves tomorrow and get the pump going. The hope is next weekend the pool is fairly clear as we have houseguests coming.

I think I should probably get my mastic done this year in the expansion joint. 6 seasons without it (never had it) as my builder told me it was not needed. $1200 was the estimate but I'll probably just do it myself. Big thing why I want to is the pool deck has sunk about an inch on one end and tons of junk accumulates in the crack.
