Friend has an above ground oval pool that has a 7 foot deep end dug into it . He has heavy wrinkles in the liner now, which is quite old and faded and due for replacement. Are liner wrinkles inevitable in a pool design like this? I say no, but im not sure with no experience

With a deep end like your friend has, there is the same potential for ground water to cause the liner to shift. Ground water can accumulate under the pool and push the liner out of position. If high ground water tables or frequent heavy rain is an issue, the problem can be solved with french drains channeling water away from the pool, or a well point may be added for frequent high ground water problems. Long term poor water chemistry issues can cause liners to wrinkle as well.
