What's your current pool temp?

Yard work? this is a POOL forum. :-D

92 yesterday, we had to turn the heat pump on to cool mode. Worked great! Time to start running the solar panels at night to keep the pool cooler.

Ours seems to be holding at 81 right now. With air temps around 78 it felt warm enough to swim comfortably. Thought the water would be colder today, the low last night was 50 here. The sun was out most of the day, so that helped.

Being up north, I'm so jealous of the posts where folks are looking for ways to *cool* their water. Mine is at 88, but my (electric!) heat pump runs about 3-4 hours every morning to keep it there, as nights are in the upper 50s presently here in Mass... even with a 16mil solar cover to trap the heat, it still drops a good 3-4 degrees overnight. I hate getting my electric bill, but our season is relatively short, so we suck it up! :)

Air temp 96 and pool is holding at a comfortable 90 :) Once i get this bird of the grill and corn done we are swimming...

We're starting to push up to 92-93 every afternoon. Solar heats the pool to 85 every morning if it isn't there already. About to have to shut solar heating off and start running solar at night to keep the pool between 89 and 92.

Edit: at 10:30 the temp was 89 and by 11 it was 90. So i made the switch from daytime pump running to night time pump running. And turned on Solar cooling to cool the pool to 86 overnight.

Depends if there is some wind or not and what the humidity is. Higher humidity means less evaporation and less heat loss so the cover will help block out the sun. Some wind will help lower the temp, if the wind is still then the cover will help block the sun. It is a pretty close call either way at this point in the pool season. Running your pump at night vs during the day will also help a degree or two because the filter and plumbing is cooler.

What does switching the pump to run at night do? Does it do anything without the solar cooler?
