Agreed. Sounds like you have it under control. As long as you aren't paying a service person to come out and replace it each time it shouldn't be a big deal.

The last few warm days has gained me 3°, I'm now sitting at 82.

91, lose about 3-4 over night but gain it back by mid-day once the heat pump kicks on in the morning.
It's getting really cold at night here. I keep the pool covered with a blanket when we're not using it. It has been around 80 in the morning and 83 during the afternoon heat. Today is supposed to be 89 so hoping for a few more degrees.
This is probably the last warmup we'll get. From here on out it will drop in temperature as we head into October.

Pool was 82° yesterday. I haven't checked today, but this cold front has knocked daytime temps to mid 70s with a low of 60 expected tonight. I might get a few more afternoon swims, but it will be chilly. Took what will probably be my last evening swim Friday before the front came.

Still ranging from 81-84. Keeping covered at night and during day until air temps get up. Funny how air temps/sun make a difference on our perception. Grandkids swam at 7pm, said water was cool (sun off pool completely, air temps lower 80s). Swam next morning at 7:30am and said the water was warm (no sun on it yet, but air temps low 70s). So cover extending season, but water feels cooler when we use late day (after work) because of the sun not being around. May need to look at some heating options next year.
Can't decide whether to throw in the towel and start hot tubbin or try to squeeze out a little more swimming. It was in the 90s on Sat and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s ever since with lows in the 50s. Pool was 79 last time I looked, probably colder now.
It was 70 degF this morning!!! Brrr. With air temps in the 40's overnight and 70's in the day! I dont think the solar cover is doing much anymore except prolonging the inevitable.
Checked this morning and it was 76. It's been dropping quickly!
My goal is to jump in on Saturday to at least say "I was in the pool in October" looks like that is shaping up to be a polar bear swim..

81 yesterday...sustained cold weather in the mid 60's starting tomorrow...I think I'm done.

We had a bit of heat wave the last few days (along with some bad fires in the hills above us), so we gained a bit more heat and were back up to 83° water temp yesterday.
Last week we were in the 79-80° range.
With the lower sun angle, which adds some more shading from our house and surrounding trees, we are not getting much heat gain at all anymore. In the summer months, June-August, I could open the pool when the sun was shinning and get quite a bit of noticeable heat gain - now though we don't get any heat gain at all when we have the auto cover open. One day last weekend it was 80° at 10am and 90°+ out most of the day, but the pool sat at 81° all day with the cover open.

The boss decided we are going to install the heat pump and keep trying to swim. Water is back up to 79 with solar running and I put the solar cover on to keep the heat in overnight when it is fitty-something again tonight. Supposed to be 80 and sunny on Saturday, we should be able to get the water up to 85+ with just solar and the cover I'm thinking.
The heat pump is out of the box and I made the first trip to Lowes to get all the stuff I need to install it.

Time to kick in the heater to extend the season out to November when we get those warm Indian Summer days out here in SoCal..
Our pool faces south south east so it gets lots of natural heating but when the angle of the earth relative to the sun gets lower the solar radiation goes down.
We like it in the low to mid 80's in the water and don't have a cover but like to use the pool so we use it from March until November with a little heater boost when we know it is going to be a warm(er) weekend.
