We are buiding pool! Well - we hired a pool contractor.
Fiberglass - 16x32 - American fiberglass Lazy 8. Going with SGC (scg, dont remember)
Actually in the getting the financing stages.
Looking at how to control the system, and found Chief's thread.
I will keep an eye out there.
First time posting, here, too! This is a great forum.

Pool quote came back - basically about what I was expecting price wise.
It is a very basic design. We asked him to update it to add a heater and coping costs. Wow, coping is expensive!!
For that matter, I could acquire a heater and install myself.

Our pool contractor (not a contract yet...) is young and just starting his business. I like him - he comes from a family of pool installers, but his quote is very basic. I am ok with it, because he answered several questions I had quickly and seems to know his stuff. But I need to make sure we get what we want....

Pool size is 32'6x16'6. I think it is big enough. Do you like yours that size?

We just finished our FG build!
And ya... ours was pretty basic too. We used Aqua Pools of Texas and their quote was basically just a letter sized piece of paper with the pool model, size and then a few items checked off from a list of extras/addons like deck jets or swg for example.
We had nothing to do with the choice of filter, swg, lights, etc. It was just whatever they typically install. They knock these things out one after the other, the pool models don't change.
We ended up with the Dynasty D30. We paid extra for the swg and two deck jets, and some extra concrete.
With your builder being new, I'd want to know more about exactly what he was installing and what you are getting for your money.

I have asked for more info. I expect to hear back tomorrow.
Thanks!!

The pool shell will come from American Fiberglass Pools in Houston, the lazy 8 in Baccarat. Same phone number since 1971. Will have the SWG, and he says glass media in the filter. Variable speed pump, a couple of deck jets, gas heater, and Texas 2 Step jump rock/waterfall. Gonna have a handrail and two lights. 800 sq ft extra concrete. I will keep updating as I get details. Getting ready to sign a contract.

I would insist on very specific Make/Model/part number on all equipment in the proposal. I would include placement of skimmers, returns, lighting, stairs and jets. I would post the proposal and pricing here and get feedback from this crowd. I can't tell you the number of times we have help people building pools to get equipment and pricing that makes sense...I personally would not sign a contract until I had a full accounting and feedback from TFP. But, what do I know...I'm "PoolStored."

We had our 16x36 vinyl pool installed last year. After going over the contract we decided to add additional concrete so that we could add the bump out shown below as well as a pad for the pavilion. The finished area of concrete turned out to be 1150sf

Ok - here are more deets:
from my PB:
"800 sq ft of concrete.
As far as the equipment is concerned. I use a Pentair variable speed 3hp pump and a Pentair 30" sand filter.
I will need to double check with my supplier on what exactly the over sized saltwater chlorinator is called and the heater."

On another note - I need to get rid of about 100' of way overgrown pampas grass. Gonna learn how to use a backhoe. The bonfire is where the pool will be.
Thanks for your help!!

You need to get a definition of oversized swg & exactly which vsp (there are different models capable of different things).
I tried to look up the Lazy 8 (looks cool!)
but can’t find the volume listed. You want a swg cell rated for at least 2x’s your pool’s volume. This is very important! They should be able to tell you the pool volume.
With a waterfall, deck jets & heater it’s likely you will have some sort of automation & multiple pumps.
You need to know exactly what each item is.
As @PoolStored mentioned I wouldn’t sign anything without agreeing on exactly what you are getting.

Our pool volume is 22k
Hayward S310T2 30" sand filter with 2" MPV (he said he will use glass bead media)
Intelliflo3 VSP
Mastertemp 400K Low Nox heater
IC40 SGC cell (for 40k pool)
POX-45-0556 Intellichlor Power center for SGC cell
Powerclean Ultra inline feeder w/ glass lid (if I have SGC, do I need the powerclean?)

It all looks like good gear to me. What are your thoughts?
