Vsp in for the winter?

In researching vsp’s, I saw in the Hayward Tristar manual they recommend a full disconnect for winterizing and the pump to be brought inside.

Does anybody actually do that?

I’m planning on going with the Pentair Whisperflo VST because itll be drop-in to replace my Whisperflo single speed. The Pentair manual doesn’t say a full disconnect is needed, but is it a bad idea to leave the electronics outside over the winter regardless?

I’m around Philadelphia where the winter isn’t brutal but its a few months of below freezing.

In 30 years of owning pools in NJ my pumps have always been left outside in the winter.

I have a Jandy VSP and leave it out all winter here in Chicago. It's about 5 years old and no problems yet. I do drain it very well, remove the plugs and plug the input pipe from the pool (standard pool closing stuff). I don't recall reading anything like what you describe in the manual.

It sounds like they're building some warranty claim deniability. "Oh, so sorry, you left your pump out every winter..."

"Store pump in a dry area" and bringing the pump inside are two different things.

Covered with a water-proof cover and out of standing water should meet the "store pump in a dry area" statement you posted.

I dunno….if u go through ‘disconnect pump’ on step 3 not much point in leaving it outside

Note: I wasn't questioning whether the Hayward manual said this, but rather noting that I had not seen similar content in the Jandy manual.

Regardless, thanks for posting that screen shot which inspired me to search the Jandy documentation. What do you know, but Jandy also recommends bringing it inside.
