You can put plaster right on top of plaster. What I would do is go out there and make sure it is nice and rough to get the new plaster a good bit when it is shot. I would also rub my finger on it to make sure it is not higher than the shell. If it is a bit higher I would sand it down some. That will also help the new plaster they will be putting over it.
