I did use DE with it the first time I did the slam this spring and got no results.Have you read Add DE to a Sand Filter - Trouble Free Pool
When was the last time the sand filter was deep cleaned?
If you wish to go there, use a quality phosphate remover/clarifier. SeaKlear.Im tempted to abandon the slam and do the Phos free that my buddy recommended.
Our CYA is right around 35. We’ve kept above 16PPM FC levels the entire time checking 3 times a day. Typically we will be right around the 20 PPM and add the amount of chlorine the chart tells us to when needed. We use a solar cover after adding chlorine and brushing the sides. What chlorine level are you keeping it at? What is your CYA level?
I’ve looked over the filter quite thoroughly and see no issues. Pump runs great it was brand new as of last year. Always have good pressure of roughly 12-13PSI when startup is complete. If you wish to go there, use a quality phosphate remover/clarifier. SeaKlear.
We do not believe phosphates are an issue. For whatever reason, your pool will not clear. 99% of the time that is a filter issue.I

Do you think I’m at the point of using the phosphate remover or should I keep up the slam. I hate to stop and start all over.
Last year when I did this I could see the bottom of the shallow end on day 4. Day 5-6 the pool was perfect.
Here are pictures from this morning. Can you post a pic of what the pool looks like?
Looks like your standard post algae pool with a sand filter. But yours is too long in this stage. Check the filter.
When you say check the filter what exactly do you mean. I did take it apart completely and there are no cracked laterals. Pressure is good. Backwashes good. No water leaks that I can see.Looks like your standard post algae pool with a sand filter. But yours is too long in this stage. Check the filter.
is there any chance "something" is lurking in the deep end bottoms? i.e. leaves, pine needles , night crawlers. I had similar problem opening last spring. when i could finally see bottom, there was a lot of crud. took a lot of stirring it up with the brush to get things moving through the filter.
Could you post a picture of the sand filter connections and the multiport valve?

I did read about the DE. The filter was deep cleaned 3 weeks ago. Took it apart entirely and cleaned laterals, pressure washed the inside. The whole deal.
