Hi. First time posting here. We have a new fiberglass pool installation in progress. We had some issues with the pool installer and now have to put the project on hold for about 5 weeks while we are away from home. Looking for best advice (other than cancel trip) to keep the pool in as best shape as we can until we get back. The pool is freeform fiberglass about 34'x14' abou 12.5k gallons. The pool is full and plumbed up to the equipment pad, but no plumbing or electrical at the equipment pad yet. So basically, a large bathtub with water that is already showing algae on top and has about a 1/2 of silt on the bottom from a very dusty environment during excavation/backfilling and wind. We have a ftiend (non pool knowledgeable) that is willing to spend some time to help... such as one person I talked to said maybe adding a large amount of chlorine once a week or so... but suggested posting to your forum.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for your response. Do you know about how much chlorine to add and how often or will this require the test kit? I think my friend would be up for a couple times a week if needed. I will look through the links you provided. Just trying to get through the 5 weeks without coming back to what I imagine as a giant kelp farm. Thanks again.

Without knowing your CYA level it isn't possible to determine your chlorine level. Generally a clean pool will lose 2-3 parts chlorine per day. With your volume, that would be around 1/2 gallon of 10% chlorine every other day.

No chemicals have been added at this point. It is water delivered by a water truck and sitting in the pool for about a week now.

I would get chlorine in asap. If you have added nothing like no CYA, you may safely use the chlorine pucks.
