The husband finally let me take over and I don't want to blow it!!

Thanks Dakemi,

Understand re losing clarity from simple transfer of picture. This does look better than the last one. You can at least see the styrofoam is black (and will need replacing soon). Looks like the camera also focused on reflection on the surface of the pool (see the trees?) so the bottom will be somewhat out of focus anyway. Congratulations on beating the pool store and becoming a TFP acolyte! There's always more to ask and learn. I got so frustrated before finding this site, I was ready to fill the pool in with dirt. Folks here are always helpful, patient and encouraging. Did you ever remove the lights?

Haha, I showed TH the picture comparisons and he just shrugged and said "what's that a picture of?" When I said it was even worse when I started and I wish I had taken pictures then (the before picture wasn't until 7/4 and he turned over the pool a week before Father's Day) he said, "I bet you wish you had taken pictures then." Hahahaha:party::lovetfp:
But.....he DID take the water sample to his pool store to get it tested for metals and FC, so kudos to him. Can't wait to see their results.

Yes, I'm definitely OCD so I'll do the OCLT again tonight.Besides, looks like the weatherperson says no more thundershowers so I might talk TH into cleaning out the lights and that might stir up "stuff", but I really want every nook and cranny cleaned out! Its been too much work to leave any stone (or light) unturned!

Should I get the foam replacement from the pool store since TH is going to ask them to do a water test? Or buy at Lowe's or online?

I purchased mine on-line. I generally avoid pools stores anymore.... I also am a "prime" member of popular on-line shopping site ;). Free shipping, etc. I found 5 for $10 doing a quick search right before this post.

Great job Dakemi! Seriously happy for you and TH. I am still working on my first SLAM and am almost there...i get to remove and clean out the light housings this afternoon as I have to believe that's one of the last places the little green monsters can be hiding. Finally had a cc of <0.5 today so I should be a day or two behind you. Congrats again. I think its funny that i kept checking this forum several times per day to see how yours was progressing and learning a ton at the same time. The postings here and the progress you were making kept me coming back. Good luck with round 2...the stains. I'll keep reading...

TH cleaned out the lights....yay!!!! I take back all the bad things I said about him!! And glad he did cuz some weird calcified stull (looks like coral only more brittle) was inside the well in the kiddie pool. And the well in the big light in the middle of the pool was so full of algae it stunk when TH was brushing it out. We both irked. BTW, TH had to go under water and I have the pool at 20FC.....did I kill him?? The light and the cord was pretty dirty on both lights. We left the big light out since TH could only scrub so much and we thought the chlorine water in the pool would kill the algae that was left more efficiently if the well was open. Correct? Too late if not, he's all showered and changed and watching Nascar.

TH took the water sample to the pool store but they were closed. Rats! I'll try the Vitamin C in the sock and the puck test. By the "puck", do you mean the chlorine puck for the pump?

Now on to the dreaded stains!!.......................

Thanks for the congrats!;) Encouragement is a great thing!!

My husband is nervous about taking out our lights. I'm going to try and convince him.

Tell him to call TH ask me privately for his #

Just drop it in some vinegar or diluted MA and see if it bubbles.

Tried it, no bubbling. What's MA?

MA = Muriatic acid

By the way, just my opinion, but you should not publish personal information (TH's telephone #) on a public website. While TFPers are trustworthy and wonderful people, the website is totally open to the entire internet, trolls, hackers, riff-raff and all.

If you want to contact someone directly, then use the Private Messaging (PM) system and contact them directly through the internal TFP email service.

Just my opinion.

Made the edit, thanks!

- Would be interesting if any of our "chemistry majors" can identify "the calcified stuff" in post 205.
- Hooray on taking the lights out and scrubbing.
- If you've never handled MA, be sure to read up on it first. It's quite powerful, and you need to take precautions. Also, be sure to know the proper order for diluting MA. Always add acid to water and never water to acid. (You get the point, don't try working with this before learning the correct handling methods and precautions.)

Failed the OCLT:-x, think it was the algae. Missed FC by .5, and CC by .5 as well.

As for the calcified white stuff. I don't think I'll handle MA right now but if anyone wants, I'll mail it to you. I wonder if its just levt over plaster or caulking from the original installation?

FC is at 19, if I don't add any chlorine, could TH take a dip at some point today? Poor guy has been exile for a week. Or will it mess up my SLAM (planning OCLT tonight)

TH has 2 questions:
1. The pool lights used to change color and now they don't. Both the kiddie pool light and the main light no longer change. It used to go from red to purple, to green and blue, changing every 5 minutes or so but now it stays one pinkish/yellowish color. We thought it might have just blown, but both lights? All the same colors out? Does water temp have anything to do with it? (It freezes is the winter here). Would appreciate any input.

2. What kind of reward does he get for being so agreeable?
(I said, "A bright, sparkly pool, silly!")

Those color changing can usually be controlled by a series of flipping the light switch on and off. Google the owners manual to find the secret code. 2 ups and 1 down, etc.
