Starting the process in South Carolina

Husband sent me some updated pictures, PB has been communicating great with me being 1200 miles away. My dad is getting stronger every day, which is the most important. I do have a question about the pentair 5g location. I picked that position to shine toward the deep because if I put it from the deep shining toward the other side it would throw a shadow in the corner where the raised beam is. I will also have a globrite on the sun shelf. He mounted the light pretty low, any thoughts?IMG_0756.jpgIMG_0760.jpgIMG_0748.jpgIMG_0762.jpg

I like where it is. It is sure to light up the deep end being there. That is just going with my gut and thinking about it this way and that way.

I am glad to hear Dad is getting stronger! him for me please.

Tell hubby thanks for the pics! He does need to go out with a tape measure to make sure it is deep, long, wide, etc, enough. NOW is the time to fix it or change it if wanted or needed. Tell him to add about 6 inches for the gunite and plaster.

Had a set back this weekend and Monday with all the rain and had some major cave ins. Don't have all the pictures. Was suppose to shoot gunite tomorrow but have to repair so gunite is moved to Thursday, temp should be in the low 50s for the next two days and maybe a wintery mix on Saturday, will that hurt the curing process?

There are real items to consider for cold weather curing. Anecdotally, my pool was shot (dry-mix) on a day when the high was 27 degrees and maybe the low 30's the next day and thereafter (and the ground was frozen). They heated the water coming out of the truck in a rudimentary fashion (more to keep it from freezing than making it very warm). I'm not sure what if anything was added to the dry mix. No problems developed. Certainly your ground temps are well above freezing, probably by 15-20 degrees.

For me, I wouldn't be concerned but I'd ask what precautions they will take. And how you would notice if the concrete was affected. At least it shows you are interested. There is a warranty - such as it is, on the shell.

Just my personal, non-professional thoughts for your situation.

Gunite did not get finished in first day, so they added more today and it rained most of the day. They still have steps to do that are beside the sun shelf and missed a part over one of the skimmers. Also, the corners are really rough and some chunks have fallen. The builder is a nice guy and has been building pools for 30 years. I am just nervous. They are really going to have to use a lot of plaster to make it look good.

Did they mean to leave out the steps so the could come back an do them or did the forget to do them? Those corners do look rough.........lets hope the plaster can be like lipstick on a pig LOL

Is there any why hubby can be home when the show up with the plaster to make sure it is the correct color and has all of the extras (if any) you asked for? We have had a couple of pools they had the wrong color of plaster and did not have the extras they had paid for  If he can just be there when the truck pulls up so he can check the color.

I should be home around the 20th, so should be there for plaster. They ran out of time, and with the rain they would have been a mess. They are doing the steps poured concrete. I hope they pin them in with rebar. I am just a mess worrying about this pool. I know he has been doing this for awhile but there are some issues I believe that will cause problems in the future. Thanks TFP for all the encouragement and advice. I have spoken with the builder by phone and he always answers my call and questions. And yes Kim, I hope they are good with the "frosting" cause they have some magic to work!

Kim-he is waiting until I get back to pour the steps until I get back this weekend. Here are some updated pictures. He had to build up the bond beam on one side about 3 inches to make sure the tile was level. He said the forms dropped during the rain and he did not have time to pull the forms and relevel as he wanted to get it shot before the next rain. He did relevel the skimmers to make sure they were level with each other.
