So this happened

Maybe the builder has the same condition as Drew Barrymore in 50 first dates
For real I was actually getting concerned for GC towards the end. I lost my *ability to remain gentlemanly* several times. A few of those times were flat out embarrassing him in front of his subordinates, yet 15 mins later he was all chipper like it didn't happen.

First off, Bravo. :ROFLMAO:

It was entirely clear at the end that he wasn't. His 40 (?) son confessed to me that he was off and he had never seen him like that. I didn't know they were related at the time. He seemed to be egging me on anytime I was launching on GC, so I just assumed he was sick of him too.

Got a call today that they were coming to install the stairs and liner track so that we'd be ready to go with the liner in a day or two.

@Dirk, they drilled 4 bolts into each side. Between that and the legs in the back, 2 large dudes were standing on them and they didn't budge. Once it's backfilled they won't be going anywhere.

I went after work to drop off the payments and the store manager told me that with everything I went through I could have as much of a grace period as I needed. I told him that 9 weeks late was plenty long enough but thanked him for offering.

When they did my stairs they anchored the legs supporting them in concrete. They backfilled under them with gravel to fill the voids. They also used bolts…

Sure looks to be an absolutely perfect fit. The liner attaches to the stairs? Or fits over them?

It is now. It was about an inch too close so they spent some time with the grinder shaving down the walls. IIRC, last time the hole was a skootch to wide so they cut a wooden strip for either side as a filler.

This trim piece pops off and the liner gets installed like the stairs aren't there. Then they reattach the trim piece and cut the opening. 20220620_164918.jpg

They replaced my straight steps with curved ones because the pool is an oval, and said it would look better. They had to cut down some pressure treated 2x4s to fill the gaps because the new ones are narrower at the bottom then the straight ones were. Would have felt better about it if they could have had something fabricated out of stainless steel or fiberglass.

Or the resin/plastic planks they have at HD now. I questioned it at the time and they said the wood would outlive the liner. 🤷‍♂️

Will they do something extra at the bottom of the step to keep the liner from creeping out there? I know about the back fill behind the steps but what about at the front?
Don't know yet. At the very least they still need to add the sand for the floor and the insulation foam boards so that will fill the gaps (along with the backfill).

Yeah in theory, it should if it’s ground rated pressure treated. Make sure they get the ground rated stuff, only problem with that though is that stuff is so wet and it shrinks a lot. I mistakenly grabbed some ground rated 1x6 to build a bar top and it shrank by about 1/2 inch over the course of around 6 months.

I moved so it's the other guys problem. These stairs fit like a glove. :ROFLMAO:
When I think about it, the composite decking stuff is way to flexible to use. Perhaps something made from PVC?

Edit: wait we’re talking about your old pool… yeah I need more coffee..

That's the stuff I was talking about above. I've used it a few times where things get wet and it will outlive us all. It cuts real nice too if you need a weird shape / angle.
