Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

How frustrating!! I bet there is some kind of setting that needs tweaked or done but he has to come and fix it!!

It is Kim. I messaged the pb at 6.40am and at 7.30am the plumber turned up so I can’t really complain about their response. The plumber thinks it’s an electrical issue with the chlorinator not recognising / loosing signal from the pump (or something along those lines). He is going to call Astral the manufacturer when they open and get them to come out and replace. Right now it is working again, but who knows for how long.

You sound a bit stressed, so just want to mention you're OK on circulation. It's fine for the water to be still for long hours, provided of course that the chemistry and sanitiser are in good shape. It's quite normal to run for a few hours and leave the water still the rest of the day. It does delay the cleanup of your cloudiness a bit, but no harm. If concerned, you can use the robot for circulation of the water, and ongoing filtering. If the FC drops too much, you can add some chlorinating liquid and let the robot do the mixing.

Meant to mention, if the pump is on low speed, and low speed is set to barely satisfy the flow switch, then the accumulation of debris in the filter from cleaning the water will reduce the flow rate, and that could be just under what closes the flow switch. You can find out by backwashing (~ 2 minute backwash, 2 minutes rinse).

If it works fine after, then the flow was a bit low. I'm not sure about your system, but low flow on mine also shuts off the pump after a few minutes.

Apart from the 240v power cable are there any other cables (data cable etc) connected to the pump itself?

If not then the chlorinator has no direct comms to the pump - It simply controls the 240V supply to the pump (This is how mine is currently connected).

If the PB has fitted the data cable, you should see it connected/entering at the rear top of the pump near the control panel.

Note that this cable is an optional accessory and is not part of the pump or chlorinator install kit.

Thanks Jett. Yes, I am pretty stressed. It was running on high speed, never low speed. First 2850. Then after plumber came back to fix he left it on 3000. He’s been out again this morning and left it on 2850 again. It’s still running so that’s a good sign. The reason I’ve been so stressed is that I didn’t want it ruining my plaster. Plus all this brushing I’m doing seems futile without a pump and filter as it just settles back down again. If you say it won’t hurt anything if it’s just short term, then that makes me feel better. I tried the ph test last night and it was off the charts high so that bothered me as I know that’s a concern for new pebble. I could tell how harsh the water was after brushing last night and my hand and arm getting wet. I’m not worried about clearing the pool quickly, more long term health of my pebble. I’m going to go and brush while the pump is still running! I asked if it needed backwashing and was told not yet. Will see how it goes for the rest of the day.

Will have a closer look. Thanks Costas.

High pH won't hurt the plaster, but it could allow scale to form. Just feel the tiles underwater and if they feel rougher than new, then scale may be forming on the surface of the tiles. That happened within a week on my sister-in-law's pool before she got a handle on pH, but it's not hurting the plaster. Once we got the pH right, the roughness on the waterline tiles disappeared in a few days.

Your robot should be catching the plaster dust as it falls. do you know the micron rating on the filter element in the robot? Are there two different filters for it or anything like that?

Post a full set of test results when you get a chance, in this format:

FC X.X
CC X.X
pH X.X
TA XXX
CH XXX
CYA XX
Salt XXXX
Temp XX

The pump ran for 12 hours after the plumber came this morning. Not sure when it was meant to turn off but happy it’s working ok for now but will check with pb in the morning that it was meant to shut off when it did.

Haven’t had a chance to do full water test yet. Will try for tomorrow. One of my dogs had to go under general urgently today for X-rays on her back leg. Had to drop her off earlier then pick her up at 8pm so been a little distracted today and feeling a little poorer.

Robot is working well on whatever timer they have set him on. Haven’t looked in box yet to see if there are other filters.

I’m ok with how things are going for now. Will brush for the second time before bed tonight. Water is looking a little clearer.

Hey sorry to hear about the pooch :(

Some people take a picture each day looking down at their stairs. It's an easy way to see the changes in clarity.

I looked up the DB3 and it appears to have the same filter bag as a robot in my mate's pool (Davey cleaner made by Maytronics). I can't find the micron spec for yours, but it's really good on mine, so it will be removing a lot of dust; that's great :). It will remove fine particles faster than the sand filter. You can check your manual to be sure, but on mine, you hose it out once a week or so (just turn it inside out). It's a bit of a pain, but the fabric does a nice job of cleaning. To get rid of sun cream and skin oil, you can chuck it in the washer around once every two months or so.

Thanks Jett and thanks for the information about the robot. I’m really happy with him so far. I forgot to take a pic today but can definitely see the bench more clearly now. I don’t take my phone with me when I brush. Probably a good thing as I’ve almost fallen in several times. I felt the tiles tonight and they don’t feel rough. Ph is still reading high at 8.2 on the control thingy. I’m going to ask about this tomorrow. Half tempted just to dump some acid in myself.

Is she okay? Hope it will be an easy fix!

Thanks Kim. We are not sure yet. She was suddenly lame on one of her back legs about 2 weeks ago. Vet thought it was her knee and couldn’t rule out acl. She seemed ok a day or so later but this morning the same thing. She wouldn’t get up voluntarily and was miserable. The vet decided to keep her for X-rays under ga. They were some very impressive (read expensive) digital X-rays. It’s actually her hip. She has a separation that doesn’t present quite like hip dysplasia so if it is it’s early/mild. Could be that she injured herself 2 weeks ago and it didn’t have time to heal as she was only restricted and on meds for a week. Possibly a burst joint capsule or ligament damage. No signs of cancer or arthritis. She is on meds for two weeks and restrictions for 6-8 then re X-ray. Yup. Have to pay for this all again. She is also on a special mobility food with weight control. She is 33kg and needs to be at 30. Hold your hats.. this bag of food was $177 and it’s half the size of their usual premium food which we pay $120 for. Ouch. I really hope it’s just an injury.
