Slam didn't work, I'm trying

I just vacuumed to wasted 1.5 feet of water. I don't know if I can add acid with a FC of 20 or not. I use Magic Acid. I think the 24 oz of blue clarifier is the reason the chlorine can't do its job. I knew I shouldn't have listen to that guy!
As Newdude said - the ph test is inaccurate at fc levels above 10ppm. This is why ph is adjusted to 7.2 before beginning slam.
During slam just focus on fc & cc testing.
Your last posted ph was quite low - I doubt you need acid anyway.

So I have a green pool which is currently lime green as appose to the olive green it was. I posted on here and was told to get a Taylor T-100. My cya (using test 3 different types of test strips) read over 100 CYA and I couldn't get it down, via replacing water. Well, went to Pool place that uses Taylor for testing and he said it was 70 ppm on CYA. Date was 9/8/22
FC 2
CC 1
PH 6.8
AL 104
CYA 70
BORATE 23
Copper.80
Guy give me clarifier and tells me to sink it after raising FC. I tried. Long story short, my phone quit working, Lost everything, couldn't order T100, so I trusted him. My bad.
After slamming for 5 days, I stopped bc I knew my CYA was not 70. Got a new phone and then T100. Started slam with FC10, CC .5, CYA 80. Brought FC to 30 and tried to keep it there and for 5 days, it didn't work. I removed more water to drop CYA and I think I'm at 70, but my ph reads 8.4 but my FC is currently 20.
Do I add acid and proceed with slam?

My FC is at 13 and the sun's still shining. Hopefully tomorrow it will drop below 10ppm. I will check PH and add Acid and hope it clears up. The water looks blue with a white hue. I use Magic Acid bc I have to. Is 32oz the MAX amount per dose and per day? My PH was at 7.5 when I started and soooo much water has been drain and more put in, so I know my PH is going to be nuts!IMG_20221006_140420994.jpg

Ph is mostly for swimmer comfort. If it's far out of whack it may mess with the liner or equipment, but it's almost a non issue for clarity. It's an easy target for the pool store to throw you further out of whack. But. They have PH up *and* PH down. Here. Take 4 lbs of each. That'll be $137. :ROFLMAO:

Anywho, focus on keeping the FC at SLAM level. The more often you can add, the better. Seriously, aim for 2 hours each. (But the best you can do is ok too, it's just going to take longer).

Keep the filter clean too and backwash as needed. What kind of filter do you have ? Sand filters take the longest to get everything out. They have tested the patience of everyone before you, so stick to the plan, have a beverage, and it will happen.

Is it “acid magic” or “magic acid”? There’s apparently a big difference.

Focus on your chlorine, that is what kills algae and clears your pool.
Then you can focus on pH and the other levels once your water is clear and algae free.

Also, why do you have to use acid reducers? Wetherford has a Lowes, Tractor Supply, and a few local type hardware stores (plus Granbury has both lowes and home depot). All of those should have muriatic acid.

I just rabbit holed Acid Magic and the website read suspiciously like the weak MA jug. They tried their best to claim to not be MA, but the Manufacturer Safety Data Sheet says otherwise. The strength was of course redacted as a trade secret.

Thank you for this. Now that I have a T-100 I mean a TF-100, I can watch that. I have no choice but to use it. 3 yrs ago I had pneumonia really bad and it damaged my lungs. I can't be within 4 feet of other Acid.

Look for the 15% version of MA. Kleen Strip is the brand at HD / Lowes (in the paint aisle) and it says 90% less fumes on the bottle. It's the same stuff and likely cheaper. It also may say green or eco.

My apologies, I'm cooking and didn't finish reply. My biggest problem was I slammed with a CYA above 90. Finally reduced to 80 and saw a little improvement. I've been at this and trying hard to follow the Slam process. I read here that a High PH can cause pool to be cloudy. I have vacuumed to waste every other day and backwashed also. The pool water is blue but cloudy with a white hue. I'll let ya know how this goes. Thank you for helping me!😉

So the SLAM is really 2 stages. A kill the algae stage, and a filter it out stage. Milky means it's dead/ mostly dead, and you're in the filtering part of the battle. You keep the FC up because you don't want to lose any ground, but the FC will hold much longer, possibly even all day at some point.

Thus is where we preach POP. Pool owner patience. Stay the couse, you got this.

Just catching up on this thread and didn't see an answer to the question about your filter. Are you watching it and keeping it clean too? I know when I did my (only!) SLAM when I first found TFP I had to keep backwashing my DE filter because it was filtering out so much dead algae it was constantly getting clogged up.

Keep at it - you're close to having a TFP clear pool!

Yes Sir. Thank you
