The Badu system requires 6 inch pipe if the run is over 30 feet to minimize pipe loss. It really is massive.

We passed our inspection on Friday and the team was here installing the solar heater. Planning on gunite next week but will know schedule on Monday.

Gunite complete. Now it looks like a pool. Had a problem when they realized the bench was set too high. Had to reposition the rebar and lights while digging out the dirt in the way. Team came together and our bench depth is now correct. Glad I was here to watch as I would have been worried all day.

Rich D, they were throwing lots of rebound out. Amazing how much there is.

I used to play in a league that had a pool like this.. you had to slide the puck up the wall and on the bench/step to score.

That bench is one example of why I suggest the home owner been there. Most crews would have left it like it was unless being watched over. Good job making sure it got fixed!

It’s been a couple of weeks since gunite and the plumbers have been back to install the gas piping. The electricians have also been here to install the main power conduit and to run the lighting conduits. We should be seeing the masons for tiling in a week or so. I am working with the PB to reroute my down spot so it doesnt dump right on my pad

An update on construction. Electrical and gas was fully installed and passed inspection. A minor issue when our fire pit gas line was not on the plans the city approved so a permit revision was required. Got it done but a few days delay. Next the pipe trenches were backfilled and the masons arrived to start tiling. After 3 days a lot of progress but more to go. Also making progress on prepping for the patio. Starting to look like a pool and we are excited.

A minor issue when our fire pit gas line was not on the plans the city approved so a permit revision was required.

Interesting! Same exact thing happened to our build. The city said our kitchen and fire pit were not on the approved plans. It was only on the “reference” plan that was not approved and stamped reference only. Except ours is fully completed before they called it out on our final inspection. Still waiting on my PB to sort it out.

Question for current pool owners. As we get close to finishing, we need to switch our gates to swing out style to meet code. We currently have a standard inexpensive gate latch but, if we switch gate direction, it will be on the outside and not be functional for security. I am having a hard time finding a good code compliant latch. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I just let the PB do his thing with the basic latch to pass inspection and I added a padlock on the inside of the gate.

My county required a "self closing latch" that would catch on the hinge and be "locked" against small kids pushing on the gate. You have to pull up at the top to open it.... even I find it hard sometimes when my hands are full. I *think* but not positive its called a magnalock or something like that.

Yeah the PB can guide you here... My latches are on the outside of the gate and are nothing fancy...I also have a spring that closes the gate... its on the outside as well. If the hardware works, you will need to switch them to the other side of the gate when you switch the swing direction.

I used some handle latches for my two gates that are called Lokklatch Magnetic:

They work really well and are compliant, yet still work almost like a normal handle - they are much easier to open from the outside, as you just need to pull on the handle - on the inside you need to use your thumb to open them which tricks people the first time as they want to pull on the handle like they did to get in...

I used TruClose self closing gate hinges for the automatic closing requirements.

The last week has been spent with patio installation. Not yet done but should finish next week. Cover rails have also been installed. Equipment delivery and installation is planned for this week. Received my TF100 test kit and Speedstir so I am ready to test our fill water.
