Screenlogic2 Trouble, Need Assistance Please

We have screenlogic2 installed with Pentair Easytouch PL4/PSL4 Control system. After the install we configured using the screenlogic configurator, we for some reason only have read access. Example, when we try to click the SPA button, it lights up green, then after a few seconds it greys out. This is also happening with the temp controls, when we make the heater hotter, after a few seconds it goes back to what is set on the easytouch panel acting like the screenlogic2 is read only. Any ideas? See my versions below. Thank you for your help.

There is not such thing as "Read Only" when using ScreenLogic..

Not sure what the problem is, but it is not that..

Show me your Circuits... Like this.. If you have ScreenLogic on your PC or just show me what is on your phone.

Run this test and tell me what happens..

1. Use ScreenLogic and turn on a light. The light icon should turn green. Go out to the pool and confirm the light is actually on.
2. Use the button on the outside panel and turn off the same light. Confirm the light is off.. Then confirm that the light icon is no longer green.

this means the screenlogic isn't actually talking to your Easytouch... the rs485 comm bus isn't working.

In addition to Jim's questions...
3. did it ever work?
4. have you had any thunderstorms lately?
5. do you have any other devices that connect to the comm port on the outdoor board (i.e. intelliflo pump, is10 spa control, intellichlor, indoor panel)

The first step to troubleshoot comm issues is to inspect the wiring and connectors from the screenlogic to the Easytouch for loose connections, damage or corrosion. If that checks out, shut down power and test for continuity on each of the 4 wires themselves.

Next step is to connect ONE device at a time to the comm port to see if you have anything that works (this will verify that you've got a working outdoor board and at least one working device) **If you're using a wireless link, you should temporarily connect the screenlogic to the outdoor board with a short length of wire, but you'll need ethernet out there as well.

For the test you suggested

Pressed all on when it was gray, nothing happened.

2. Use the button on the outside panel and turn off the same light. Confirm the light is off.. Then confirm that the light icon is no longer green.

Pressed the button on the panel All on, light came on, still gray in the app. Seems the status of the light is not showing in the app at all fo rthe lights.

This is the first time Screenlogic has been installed on this system
4. have you had any thunderstorms lately?
No other systems are impacted. There is a Quicktouch wired to that same comm port thats working fine.
5. do you have any other devices that connect to the comm port on the outdoor board (i.e. intelliflo pump, is10 spa control, intellichlor, indoor panel)
Other Systems
Intellifo VSF
MasterTemp 400
Intellichlor Salt Chlorine Generator

The quick touch is working to turn the spa on an off.

I will go try to isolate the Screenlogic on that comm port and preform a continuity test now. Ill report back.

As Tom pointed out, ScreenLogic is not talking with the EasyTouch.

If this is a new install, have them come back and fix it..

If you want to play with it...

How is ScreenLogic connected to your EasyTouch..

Is it hard wired, or is it wireless? If wireless, does it have its own Antenna??

I purchased this kit new and installed myself. Ive installed this kit before on different systems with no issues.

The board on the lower left is wired to the comm port. the receiver top left of photo is connected to the protocol adapter in the server room not far away.

BTC,

If you take the cover off of the outside antenna, the circuit card should have three lights.. A power light that is solid green and a TX and RX light.

Both the TX and RX light should randomly flash.

Let's see what Tom's input is.. Calling @ogdento

They are flashing inside and outside. If i turn systems on the easy touch, I can see on my phone (Screenlogic2). I just cant change any systems from the app (Screenlogic2).

At this point I’m leaning towards a configuration issue (in pc app) or the easy touch firmware

I'd be shocked if it's the Easytouch firmware. If the screenlogic can recieve but not send, it sounds like a hardware problem.

When you initially power up the wireless link, the indoor transceiver will flash like crazy for the first 30 seconds or so until the two transceivers connect to each other (it explains this initial connection in the manual). If they continue to blink like crazy then they are not connecting.

I would remove the wireless link to eliminate it as a potential issue... You should temporarily connect the screenlogic to the comm port on the Easytouch and see if it works. You don't need any power adapter because the Screenlogic is powered by the red/black on the 4-conductor cable

Depending on how far your equipment pad is to your router you may need to be creative to get it connected... you'll need to either:
1. leave your screenlogic where it is, and use a long 4-conductor cable to connect it to your outdoor panel
OR
2. bring an ethernet port (either hard-wired or via a wireless access point) out to your equipment pad and connect the screenlogic to the outdoor panel with a small jumper
OR
3. place the screenlogic somewhere in between your equipment pad and home router... use a long-ish ethernet cable to connect it to your home router, and another a long-ish 4-conductor cable to connect it to the outdoor panel.

I have an Ethernet port out by the pool. Was so close I didn’t think to use it. I will report back my findings tomorrow.

ok, that's not awesome. but let's re-cap what we know about the status of your rs485 comms:
1. on the easytouch systems, everything that uses the comm port has it's own comm chip and shares one rs485 bus with the outdoor board (there's a single comm chip on the outdoor board)
2. the quick touch can control the circuits on the outdoor board - so we know the outdoor board can receive commands via rs485
3. when connected directly - and by itself - to the outdoor board, the screenlogic can recieve (ie show current config), but any commands sent from it are ignored by the outdoor board

this points to a problem with the comm chip in your screenlogic... there are two boards inside the adapter, the top board has a 14-pin comm chip, a battery for the clock, the power led etc. The bottom board is a rabbit 3000 board that has the ethernet connection. If it's not something you can return, we can go further with troubleshooting it at a low level - up to you.

I contacted Pentair support today and they told me its a know issue with the easy touch firmware im on. They told me to upgrade it. Thats a whole new problem :(
