I have a Pentair IC-40
How long should it take for the salt levels to increase after pouring in salt.
It's been almost 24 hours and there really hasn't been a change and the red light is on indicating low salt levels...

When adding salt it is advised to turn off the SWCG until your independent salt test shows you are in the range for the SWCG to work.

Do you have a salt test kit?

The salt reading can take several hours or sometimes days to update if you are reading the level on the swg controller. It's best to have a test kit to accurately determine the salt level of your pool water. The Taylor K1766 kit is always accurate.

pc7,

The cell tests the salt level every 12 hours, so you should see it by now...

It is very important to know the "actual" salt level vs. the level the cell thinks the salt level is..

There is a good chance the thermister in the flow switch is bad, but you need to know the actual salt level to know for sure.

I use the Taylor K-1766 salt test kit.

Thanks,

Jim R.

How much salt did you add?

Salt can sit on the bottom of the pool for a surprisingly long time if you don't brush or have a main drain or a vacuum.

Brush the pool well several times to make sure that the salt is well mixed.

Okay just tested @ 3800. Intellichlor is reading @ 2650. I reset it a couple of times too.
Again it's been only around 28 hours since the salt was added.
Is it normal for the Intellchlor to take this long to read? Or do I have a some type of faulty sensor?

Press and hold the "More" button until the lights scroll and then note which percentage lights light up.

Then, immediately press the "More" button again and note which percentage lights light up.

It's important that you press the "More" button again quickly after the first percentage lights light up.

What is the date on the sticker on the bottom of the cell?

See what diagnostics in Easytouch say.

Try the More test again. You should get a percentage light after the lights first scroll and then you should get 2 percentage lights after the second press.

I would ask the builder to do a salinity test and to compare it to the readout on the Easytouch.

If the readings are more than 800 ppm different, have the builder fix it under warranty.

Brush the pool really well several times to make sure that the salt is completely mixed in.

So, I visually inspected the outside of the flow switch. Interestingly, in the pentair manual they recommend Red and Black wires in one switch and White and Green in the other plastic switch. Mine was installed differently.
Wonder if this is causing the problem.

PC7,

As long at the colors match you are good.. Red to Red, Black to Black, etc..

If this were my out of warranty IntelliChlor, I would change the flow switch (where the thermistor is located...)

But since the IntelliChlor is under warranty, call your pool builder or Pentair and have them fix it for free..

Thanks,

Jim R.
