Pump won’t stop pumping when set to shut off

I have a sand filter pump that I can set to filter for a certain amount of hours then it will go into sleep mode and shut off and do it all over again then next day at the same time. Lately it says it’s in sleep mode when the time is up but still pumps. What do I do
