Pump speed, Single speed pump?

Variable speed pumps use a top speed of 3,450 rpm because it matches what the single speed pump runs at.

However, in my opinion, the top speed of the pump should be lower, maybe about 2,700 rpm and the pump should have a bigger impeller.

This would allow the pump to run quieter at full speed without losing flow.

There might be less performance for high head applications, but good hydraulic design should prevent any high head systems in modern pools.
