Hello everyone, We would like to change our current 3HP single speed pool pump.

We are looking at different models, would you recommend a variable speed pump. If so, which models and what power would be better?

What do you think about the Black&Decker 3HP variable speed pump? your advice is much appreciated.

Thank you and happy holidays,

Karen

You may have a Hayward Super Pump or Super 2 pump. According to Century a K48M2N110 motor is a 2.25 THP motor.
Biggest issue with a Black & Decker/Blue Torrent/Calimar/Circupool pump might be finding someone willing to work on one when there is an issue. Parts are available, if you know where to look. Ones in the service industry want to be able to go to a supplier and obtain known parts that have a local way to address warranty issues if they arise. You don't want to have to order parts from an unknown source in the middle of summer and not know when they will arrive.

If you are a DIY-type of pool owner, it may be worth your while, but a name brand (Pentair Intelliflow/StaRite IntelliPro/Hayward TriStar) doesn't cost that much more, have know reliability, and usually is able to be repaired quickly if needed.
