Hello. When we bought our house there was an above ground pool. It is a 24 foot round above ground pool. We used the equipment that was left. Last week our pump broke. It is so weathered that you cannot read anything on it. The guy at the store recommended I buy a Hayward W3SP1580 Power Flo Pool Pump, 1 HP. I have a Hayward S180t filter. The filtration and design flow rate is 34 gpm. The pump says it’s 60 gpm. Is this dangerous? Can these work together. Our old pump was definitely 1 hp. As a side note we got sand in our pool all the time. I took apart the filter and replaced the laterals but it still happened. Someone told me the pump may be too strong for the filter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the filtration and backwash flow rate says 34 gpm. Someone told me that this should match the gpm on your pump. If I’m using 1.5 inch hose is this also a problem? Do I need to put 2 inch pvc?

I would go with the specific label flow rate versus the manual.

A smaller pump will be better for your setup.
