Pretty much a new guy to the inground pool world. Renovation starts this week.

Yep, good work there! I mostly use Kroger brand 8.25% concentrated store brand bleach cuz it is easy to grab while shopping and on sale often enough. Lowes has 10% and ours is busy enough with pool people so the turnover seems good. Although I have seen some bigbox stores where their pool stuff is dusty dirty and obviously been sitting there a while. Which is not good for bleach/chlorine.

Ok now school me on rain affecting the water? We had some really heavy rain today and supposed to be more this week. The ph did rise after i checked today when i got home so i threw some muriatic acid in to bring it back down. If it is to rain all week do you keep checking it or wait till the rain is over? And do i look for anything else chemical wise?

I don't think it's an issue to raise a little bit. I like to keep mine between 7.5 and 7.8ish. Anywhere in that range doesn't bother me. What is your TA level? That can help a little to keep the Ph stable if it's fluctuating too easily. If it's low it doesn't do too much in that area.

Nothing crazy pretty much want to learn so i know. Pb wanted ph to be 7.0-7.2 first 14 days. Today made 14 days and i was at 7.4. After rain i was at 7.8 so i just lowered a little to go back to 7.4 for another day. On saturday ta was 60 i didnt test it today. Its still raining a little bit nothing heavy so ill do a full test after all rain stops this week. Is that correct?

When it says to add baking soda 216oz by weight or 173oz by volume... Whatexactly are they saying in the pool math? When its weight do they mean actually weighing it on a scale? Or in a measuring cup? But then volume throws me off or is volume for liquid only?

Ok after addig 12lb bag of pure baking soda from the pool section of walmart for $7 compared to an arm n a leg for alkalinity up from a pool store lol, my ph this morning is 8.2 and my ta is at 90. The pool math put it dead on 90 as that was my target i went a tad under 100 just incase the math was off a little bit. Should my ph has rose like that? Also my return jet is breakin the top of the water is that fine on one of them or is that causing an aeration problem?

Okay never mind I think I got it I was wrong on the muriatic acid these last bottle that I used where the green that was all they had left and after checking the label again this morning it says compared to 31.45% and 20% baime. And now I realize that I was having to add it more often obviously because it is not as strong and yesterday I did not add any so that must be why it rose to 8.2 maybe. I was at 7.8 in the evening time and said ok perfect thats good and did not lower it any. I just added the baking soda.
