Rant Incoming! tl;dr: My pool is greenish/brown. I recently double shocked it and have been using Clear-Aid, to no avail. I don't know how to proceed.
Good afternoon! I hate that my first post has to be a post requesting help, but I am at my wits end. I am so frustrated and tired of working on this pool. We bought a Vinyl AGP 32'x16'x48" roughly two months ago. Chemical wise, things were great for about a month, then it wasn't. I live in a small town east of Houston and was relying on the Leslie's in town to help with all my chemical needs. Again, at first, everything was fine. Roughly 4 weeks ago, the pool got cloudy. Took a sample to Leslie's and was told it was all good, use a clarifier. I bought Ultra Brite, at their recommendation. I shocked the pool that evening and used the clarifier the following evening. We had to leave town for about a week and showed my oldest son what to do while we were gone, but nothing major should happen as everything appeared to be good. The second day we were gone my son called saying the pool was green. I thought, no way, not that fast. He sent me a pic and it sure was. I told him to sweep the walls/floor and keep stirring it up. Showed him how to clean the sand filter and asked him to take a sample to Leslie's. Wow, another "No Problem" result! "How could this be?" I asked. They said it was probably the weather, asked me to tun my pump for a couple of extra hours and "It'll be fine". Came back to town a few days later, and it wasn't any better, but I don't think it was really any worse from the pictures. Leslie's recommended to shock and to follow up with Clear-Aid. Finally, after a week of Clear-Aid and cleaning the filter every morning, the water started clearing up, but it wasn't getting clear, it was just dirty looking, a light dingy brown color. Took another sample to Leslie's, CH was low, bought Hardness Plus and more Clear-Aid. Shocked again and waited the 48 hours before adding more Clear-Aid. The next day, the pool was green, like we hadn't done anything for the last 1-1.5 weeks. Went back to Leslie's with another sample, now the Alkalinity is low, but other than that, their system shows ok. Explain once again what's happening and the lady asks how often I am shocking the pool. Once a week, to which she tells me that it should be done twice a week right now due to the heat and that is what they have been telling their customers. Now, if you have been following the story you would know that I have been to Leslie's at least 6-7 times in a month, her helping me each time, and not once has she told me to shock my pool twice a week. At this point, I am beyond frustrated. She advises me to double shock the pool, shock it today (Saturday, 6 Aug 22), wait 24 hours, shock again. I have spent probably close to $800 in the last 3 weeks trying to fix this Dang thing and I'm right back at square one. I am fully prepared to stop using Leslie's and to purchase my own water test kit. What can I do to clear up my pool?
Now, being in Houston, I can use my pool for a while longer than some places as it stays hot here, but we are losing good swimming time. My wife is mad with the pool, and that is more important than anything else right now! LOL. Thanks in advance, if you need anything, information or otherwise, please feel free to ask. I believe I have the relevant info in my signature.
